In 2012, Rosé moved to Seoul, South Korea, after a successful audition in Sydney. She joined YG Entertainment, a famous music company, and trained for four years. In August 2016, she became a member of the popular K-pop girl group Blackpink.

In March 2021, Rosé released her first solo album, R. It sold over 448,000 copies in its first week, which was a record for a Korean female solo artist. Her main song from the album, "On the Ground", made her the first artist to reach number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart as both a solo artist and a group member. She was also the first Korean female solo artist to enter the UK Singles Chart. The music video for "On the Ground" also set a record for the most views by a Korean solo artist in 24 hours on YouTube.

In 2024, Rosé signed with The Black Label and Atlantic Records. She then released the hit song "Apt." with Bruno Mars. This song became number one on the Billboard Global 200. "Apt." also topped music charts in many countries, including South Korea and Australia. It was the first song by a Korean female solo artist to reach number one in Australia. Life and Music Journey

Early Life (1997–2012)

Roseanne Park, whose Korean name is Park Chae-young (Hangul: 박채영), was born on February 11, 1997. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Her parents were immigrants from South Korea. Rosé has an older sister named Alice.

In 2004, when Rosé was seven, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia. As a child, she loved to sing and learned to play the guitar and piano. She also sang in church choirs. Rosé went to Kew East Primary School and Canterbury Girls' Secondary College in Melbourne. She later left school to join YG Entertainment.

Becoming a Trainee (2012–2015)

In 2012, Rosé tried out for YG Entertainment in Sydney. She liked the music from this South Korean company. Her father suggested she audition, and she was the best among 700 people! Rosé thought her father was joking because becoming a K-pop star from so far away seemed impossible.

Two months later, she signed with YG Entertainment as a trainee. She then moved to Seoul, South Korea, to begin her training. In the same year, Rosé sang on a song called "Without You" by G-Dragon, another artist from YG. Her name was not shared at the time. People only found out it was her after she was announced as a member of Blackpink. The song did well, reaching number ten in South Korea.

Blackpink Debut and Solo Success (2016–2022)

Rosé trained at YG Entertainment for four years. On June 22, 2016, she was announced as the last member of the girl group Blackpink. The group officially started on August 8, 2016. Their first album, Square One, included hit songs like "Whistle" and "Boombayah". In 2018, Blackpink partnered with Interscope Records to share their music worldwide.

Rosé appeared on TV shows like King of Masked Singer. People loved her singing on the show. She said she was "happy and relieved" that the audience liked her voice. She also performed on Fantastic Duo. The show's team wanted to show off Rosé's unique singing style. On June 1, 2020, it was announced that Rosé would release solo music after Blackpink's first full album.

Rosé's first solo album, R, came out on March 12, 2021. It broke records by selling 448,089 copies in its first week. The music video for her main song, "On the Ground", got 41.6 million views in 24 hours. This broke a record held by Psy for the most-viewed music video by a Korean solo artist in a day. "On the Ground" also reached number one on the Billboard Global 200 charts. This made Rosé the first Korean solo artist to top these charts. These achievements earned her two Guinness World Records.

"On the Ground" was very popular in South Korea, reaching number four on the Gaon Digital Chart. It also made it to number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. This was the highest spot for a female K-pop solo artist. In the United Kingdom, "On the Ground" was the first song by a female K-pop solo artist to enter the UK Singles Chart. Rosé won her first music show award for "On the Ground" on March 24. She won five more awards for the song. On April 5, the music video for her second song, "Gone", was released. This song also did well in South Korea.

Rosé also sang a solo song called "Hard to Love" on Blackpink's second album, Born Pink, released in September 2022. She also helped write the song "Yeah Yeah Yeah" on the same album.

Solo Work and Rosie (2023–Present)

On December 5, 2023, YG Entertainment announced that Blackpink members renewed their contracts for group activities. However, their individual contracts were still being discussed. On December 29, 2023, it was confirmed that Rosé and the other members would not continue individual contracts with YG. On April 4, she released "Final Love Song" for the reality show I-Land 2: N/a.

On June 17, The Black Label, a company linked to YG, said they were talking with Rosé about a contract. The next day, it was confirmed she signed with them for her solo career. On September 26, she also signed a solo deal with Atlantic Records. In 2024, she covered Coldplay's song "Viva la Vida" for the TV show Pachinko.

On October 18, Rosé released "Apt." with American singer-songwriter Bruno Mars. This song was the first single from her debut album, Rosie. "Apt." was a huge success worldwide. It became Rosé's second song to reach number one on the Billboard Global 200 charts. The song topped charts in New Zealand and Australia. It was the first song by a solo female K-pop artist to reach number one in Australia. "Apt." reached number two on the UK Singles Chart, making Rosé the first female K-pop soloist in the top ten there. In the US, it debuted at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100. This made Rosé the first female K-pop artist to enter the chart's top ten. She also won a Guinness World Record for being the first female K-pop artist in the top 10 of Billboard Radio Songs. By November 2024, "Apt." helped Rosé get over 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify. This broke the record for a K-pop artist on the platform. On November 22, Rosé released "Number One Girl" as a second single. She also signed a deal with Warner Chappell Music.

Rosé's first solo album, Rosie, was released on December 6, 2024. Her third single, "Toxic Till the End", came out with it. Rosie debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart. This earned her a Guinness World Record as the highest-charting female K-pop artist on that chart. It also reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, making Rosé the first female K-pop soloist with a top-five album in the UK. In Australia, Rosie debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart. "Toxic Till the End" also did well globally.

Artistry and Style

Vogue magazine has called Rosé's voice type an "electric" soprano. Since she started with Blackpink, her voice has been praised in K-pop. Fans even call it "the golden voice" because of its special sound. After Rosé sang on Fantastic Duo 2, singer Gummy, who Rosé looks up to, said Rosé's voice was "so unique." She said it was the "type of voice young people love."

After her solo album R, critic Kim Yoon-ha praised Rosé's memorable, husky voice. She said Rosé's delicate yet powerful singing makes simple lyrics feel deep. This makes her presence strong in both Blackpink and her solo work. Rosé has said that Taeyang from Big Bang and American singer Tori Kelly inspire her music style.

Other Activities

Helping Others

During the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season, Rosé used Instagram to ask fans for help. She shared links to groups that accepted donations. She explained, "We can make a difference if we all join in. Please help to save my home country." For the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting, Rosé spoke at an event about mental health. This event was hosted by the United States First Lady Jill Biden. In her speech, Rosé talked about her own emotional struggles and the challenges of being famous. She said that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Rosé was given a special honor called Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2024. This was for her work supporting the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference. On November 22, 2023, King Charles III gave her this award at Buckingham Palace. Her Blackpink bandmates also received honorary awards. Rosé's award was special because she has dual citizenship in New Zealand, which is part of the Commonwealth.
