Life and Career

1997–2012: Her Early Life

Roseanne Park, whose Korean name is Park Chae-young (Hangul: 박채영), was born on February 11, 1997, in Auckland, New Zealand. Her parents were from South Korea, and she has an older sister. When she was seven, her family moved to Melbourne, Australia.

As a child, Rosé loved music. She learned to sing and play the guitar and piano. She also sang in church choirs. She went to school in Melbourne but left after signing with the South Korean record label YG Entertainment to follow her dream of becoming a singer.

2012–2015: Becoming a K-pop Trainee

In 2012, Rosé's father suggested she audition for YG Entertainment, a South Korean music company she admired. The audition was in Sydney, Australia. She thought it was a long shot but decided to try. She beat 700 other people to win first place.

Two months later, she signed a contract with the company and moved to Seoul, South Korea, to become a trainee. As a trainee, she spent years learning to sing, dance, and perform. During this time, she was featured on the song "Without You" by her labelmate G-Dragon, but her name wasn't revealed until she debuted with Blackpink.

2016–2022: Debuting with Blackpink and Solo Success

After four years of hard work, Rosé was announced as the final member of the girl group Blackpink on June 22, 2016. The group officially debuted on August 8, 2016, with their hit songs "Whistle" and "Boombayah". Blackpink quickly became one of the biggest girl groups in the world.

In 2021, Rosé released her first solo single album, R. It was a massive success. The lead single, "On the Ground", broke records for having the most-viewed music video by a Korean solo artist in 24 hours on YouTube. The song also hit number one on the Billboard Global 200 chart. This achievement earned her two Guinness World Records: one for the music video and another for being the first artist to top a Billboard global chart as both a solo artist and with a group.
