History of the Roscheider Hof Estate

The "Roscheider Hof" is an old estate that is now home to the open-air museum. It has several buildings built around a rectangular courtyard. The first time the Roscheider Hof was mentioned in writing was way back in 1330.

During some renovations in 1978, workers found parts of a building that were from the early 1500s! For a long time, until 1794, the estate was a farm owned by the St. Matthias Benedictine monastery.

After the French Revolution, the estate was sold in 1805. A French soldier named Nicholas Valdenaire bought it. He made the estate bigger and improved the buildings. Nicholas and his son Victor were important people in the 1848 revolution. They were involved in politics and even served in different parliaments.
