Rosemeadow is a suburb located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It's about 56 kilometres south-west of the main city area of Sydney. Rosemeadow is part of the City of Campbelltown and the wider Macarthur region.

History of Rosemeadow

Rosemeadow gets its name from an early settler named Thomas Rose. In 1818, he bought a farm called Mount Gilead. This farm covered parts of what is now Rosemeadow and the nearby area of Gilead.

Thomas Rose was a baker and a publican, which means he ran a pub. He was also a farmer. He built a mill on his land and created a couple of large dams. These dams were very helpful during a dry period in 1829, providing water for him and his neighbours.

The area remained farmland for a long time. In the mid-1970s, Sydney started to grow outwards, and new suburbs were needed. Rosemeadow was officially named in 1976.

A part of Rosemeadow was built using a special design called the American Radburn design for public housing. In this design, houses are built so their back doors face the streets, and their front doors face each other, often looking onto shared green spaces. This was meant to create a friendly community feel. However, in Sydney, this design sometimes caused problems. Because of this, some parts of the estate were changed or rebuilt after 2009. Since then, some of the streets have even been renamed.
