About Round Island
Where is Round Island?
This island sits just off the shore of the Arne Peninsula. The peninsula is a piece of land that reaches into the south-west part of Poole Harbour. Round Island is very close to another island called Long Island. Only a very narrow channel separates them, so they are almost touching!
How Big is the Island?
Round Island is about 15 acres in size. To help you imagine this, one acre is roughly the size of a football field. So, the island is like 15 football fields put together! It is a private property, meaning it belongs to an individual or family. The island has a mix of grassy areas, called paddocks, and woodland.
Who Looks After Round Island?
Even though it's a private island, Round Island is part of the local government area. It lies within the civil parish of Corfe Castle. A civil parish is a small local area with its own council that helps manage local services. This parish is part of the Purbeck local government district.
