Roy Miller (born July 9, 1987) is a former American football player. He played as a defensive tackle for nine seasons. Roy was part of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked him in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and Kansas City Chiefs.

Early Life and High School Football

Roy Miller was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, in 1987. His dad was a soldier in the U.S. Army. His family lived in Virginia for a few years. Then, they moved to Killeen, Texas, when Roy was in middle school.

Roy was a great player at Shoemaker High School. He was an All-American player. He was also named All-State twice. Roy was a three-time All-District defensive tackle. He even played a bit of offensive tackle.

As a senior, he made 111 tackles. He also had 10 sacks. He helped his team a lot. In three seasons, he had 264 tackles and 24 sacks. Roy was a team captain. He also played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

College Football Career

Roy went to the University of Texas at Austin from 2005 to 2008. He had a very successful college career.

Winning a National Championship

In 2005, as a freshman, Roy helped the Texas Longhorns win big. They won the Big 12 Championship. They also went undefeated. The team then won the National Championship. This big win happened at the 2006 Rose Bowl.

Bowl Game Victories

The next year, Roy helped the Longhorns win 10 games. They beat Iowa in the Alamo Bowl. In 2007, he was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention. Texas finished in the top 10 that year. They also won the Holiday Bowl.

In his final year, 2008, Roy was a First Team All-Big 12 player. He was a team captain. The Longhorns finished with a 12-1 record. They were ranked #3 in the country. They won the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Roy was named the Defensive MVP of that game.

In 2010, Roy started all 16 games. He had 47 tackles and 1 sack. He even played a little bit as a fullback. In 2011, he had some injuries. But he still played in every game. He finished that season with 36 tackles.

Jacksonville Jaguars (2013–2016)

In 2013, Roy signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played for them until 2016. In 2013, he was placed on injured reserve in December. This meant he couldn't play for the rest of the season.

In 2016, he tore his Achilles tendon. This injury happened in Week 7. He was again placed on injured reserve. The Jaguars released him in March 2017.

Kansas City Chiefs (2017)

Roy signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in August 2017. He played seven games for them. He was released in November 2017.

Retirement

Roy Miller announced his retirement from football on June 30, 2018. He decided to focus on his children and his health. Since retiring, Roy has started new foundations. He also spends his time volunteering.

Roy Miller is half African-American and half Samoan. He is a Christian. While at the University of Texas, he did a lot of community work. He hosted middle school students. He also spoke at schools in Killeen.

Roy often visited patients at the Austin Children's Hospital. He read to students. He also mentored kids in elementary and middle schools. He helped at youth centers in Austin.

Roy continues to visit soldiers. He visited troops at Fort Sam Houston. He played dodgeball with wounded soldiers. He also worked with the "Pros 4 Vets" organization. Roy is part of a group of football players from Killeen. They hold charity events in the Fort Hood area. This includes a sports camp.

In Tampa Bay, he visited the Joshua House. This place helps foster kids. He also takes part in the Children's Cancer Center Christmas Party. Roy is a co-founder and President of The Accumulative Advantage Foundation. His goal is to help young people. He wants them to see how small chances can lead to bigger ones. Roy Miller is engaged to Dr. Rakiya Faulkner.
