Ruch is a small community in Jackson County, Oregon, United States. It's known as an "unincorporated community" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a recognized area with a name and borders, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city does.
Ruch is located on Oregon Route 238, which is southeast of Grants Pass. In 2010, about 840 people lived here. By 2020, the population was 819.
The area around Ruch is famous for its many Oregon wineries. These are part of the Applegate Valley AVA, which is a special wine-growing region. A small school called Ruch Elementary is in the center of the community. It teaches students from kindergarten to 8th grade. Their mascot is the Cougars! The Applegate River also flows along the southwest edge of the valley.
History of Ruch
Ruch got its name from a man named Casper M. Ruch. He bought land in this area in 1896. On his land, he built a shop where a blacksmith worked, a store, and a house.
In 1897, Casper Ruch was chosen to be the postmaster for the new post office. He was allowed to pick the name for it, and he decided to name it after himself. The Ruch post office stayed open until 1939.

There are two important buildings near Ruch that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places that are protected because of their history. These two places are McKee Bridge and Star Ranger Station. They are important parts of the area's past.

Ruch has a type of weather called a warm-summer Mediterranean climate. This means it has warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters. It's a pleasant climate for growing things, especially grapes for wine!
