Ruso is a very small city in McLean County, North Dakota, USA. It is an official city, but it is tiny. In 2020, only one person lived there. This makes Ruso the city with the fewest people in North Dakota. It is also tied with Monowi, Nebraska as the least populated place in the whole United States that still has people living in it. There are no longer any shops or services in Ruso.
History of Ruso
Ruso was started on July 17, 1906. It was named by someone who helped immigrants from Russia come to the area. The name might come from a Russian word meaning "south of us." Or, it could be from the first two letters of "South Russia." Ruso officially became a city on July 7, 1909.
The city's last business closed its doors in 1956. This meant there were no more shops or services there.
On August 15, 2022, three tornadoes hit the area around Ruso. They caused some damage, like flipping over farm equipment.
