Ruth Esther Pointer, born on March 19, 1946, is an American singer. She is best known as the oldest living member of the famous family singing group, The Pointer Sisters.

Ruth Pointer's Music Career
Joining The Pointer Sisters
Ruth joined her sisters in 1972. The group released their first album in 1973. They quickly became famous with songs like "Yes We Can Can" from 1973. They also had a country music hit called "Fairytale" in 1974. Another popular song was "How Long (Betcha Got a Chick on the Side)".
Success as a Trio
After Bonnie Pointer left the group in 1977, the Pointer Sisters continued as a trio. They found even greater success. They sang rock, pop, and new wave songs. Some of their big hits included "Fire" (1978), "He's So Shy" (1980), and "Slow Hand" (1981).
The Break Out Album
The group's biggest success came with their album Break Out in 1983. This album featured many hit songs. These included "Automatic", "Jump (For My Love)", and a new version of "I'm So Excited". Other popular songs were "Neutron Dance" and "Baby Come And Get It". Ruth Pointer sang the lead vocals on "Automatic" and "Neutron Dance". Both of these songs reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The group also won two Grammy Awards for their work.
Other Projects and Recognition
In 1988, Ruth Pointer sang on the song "Enemies Like You and Me". This song was from the movie soundtrack for Iron Eagle II. That same year, she was the singing voice for the character Rita in the Disney film Oliver & Company. She sang "Streets of Gold" and a part of "Why Should I Worry" with Billy Joel. In the 1990s, Ruth's daughter, Issa Pointer, joined the group. The Pointer Sisters received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994.
Recent Appearances
In October 2021, Ruth Pointer appeared on The Masked Singer. She performed as "Cupcake" during season six of the show. Ruth shared that she was supposed to perform with her sister Anita. However, Anita was unwell, so Ruth performed alone.
The Pointer Sisters Today
Sadly, Bonnie Pointer passed away in 2020, and Anita Pointer passed away in 2022. Ruth Pointer is now the last original founding member of The Pointer Sisters.
Ruth Pointer's Family Life
Ruth Pointer has five children. Her oldest children are a daughter named Faun (born 1965) and a son named Malik (born 1966). Malik is also a singer. Her daughter Issa Pointer (born 1978) has performed with The Pointer Sisters. Ruth married Michael Sayles in 1990. In 1993, when she was 47, she gave birth to twins, a boy named Conor and a girl named Ali. Ruth's granddaughter, Sadako Pointer (born 1984), has also performed as a member of the Pointer Sisters. Ruth lives in Hopedale, Massachusetts with her husband.
