Ruth Cecilia Hebard (born April 28, 1998) is an American professional basketball player. She is currently a free agent, meaning she can sign with any team. Ruthy played college basketball for the Oregon Ducks. Before college, she was a star at West Valley High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. There, she won the Gatorade State Player of the Year award three times from 2013 to 2015. She was also named the USA Today Alaska Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016.

Ruthy's Basketball Journey
College Years at Oregon
Ruthy Hebard was a key player for the Oregon Ducks from 2016 to 2020. She joined a strong team that included Sabrina Ionescu, another famous player.
Freshman Season (2016–2017)
As a first-year player, Ruthy quickly showed her talent. She scored about 15 points and grabbed 8.5 rebounds per game. She was named to both the All-Pac-12 Conference team and the Pac-12 All-Freshman team. This was a big achievement for a new player.
Sophomore Season (2017–2018)
In her second year, Ruthy helped the Ducks reach the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament. She averaged 17.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. She even set an amazing NCAA record by making 33 shots in a row without missing! She was again named All-Pac-12.
Junior Season (2018–2019)
Ruthy continued to shine, helping Oregon reach the NCAA Final Four for the first time ever. She shot an incredible 67% from the field, which was one of the best in the NCAA. She was named to the All-Pac-12 team for the third year in a row.
Senior Season (2019–2020)
In her final college year, Ruthy reached a major milestone. She scored over 2,000 career points, becoming one of only 12 players in Pac-12 history to do so. She was one of only two active players in the "2,000 club" at the time.
Professional Career
Playing in the WNBA
In 2020, Ruthy was picked by the Chicago Sky as the 8th overall player in the 2020 WNBA draft. This meant she was one of the top players chosen to play in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
Ruthy became a WNBA champion with the Chicago Sky in 2021. This was a huge win for her and her team!
In 2023, Ruthy took some time off because she had a baby. She returned to play for the Sky later that season.
Playing Overseas
When the WNBA season is over, many players go overseas to play basketball in other countries. Ruthy has played for several teams:
- Nesibe Aydın (Turkey): After her first WNBA season, Ruthy played for this team in Turkey. She had some fantastic games, including one where she scored 34 points and grabbed 20 rebounds!
- Passalacqua Ragusa (Italy): She also played in Italy for a season.
- KSC Szekszárd (Hungary): In 2022, Ruthy joined this team in Hungary, which also played in the EuroLeague, a top European competition.
Ruthy's Life Outside Basketball
Ruthy Hebard was born in Chicago. She was adopted by her parents, John and Dorothy Hebard, and grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska. She is a Christian and is part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, which is a group for athletes who share their faith.
