Ryan Emerson Wilcox Harris (born March 11, 1985) is a former American football player. He was an offensive tackle, a position that protects the quarterback and blocks for running plays. Ryan Harris played for several teams in the National Football League (NFL).

He was chosen by the Denver Broncos in the 2007 NFL Draft. A big highlight of his career was winning Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos. They defeated the Carolina Panthers in that championship game. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Notre Dame. Today, Ryan Harris works as a football analyst for some NFL games on Westwood One.

Early Life and High School Football

Ryan Harris grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota. He went to Cretin-Derham Hall High School. There, he was a talented athlete in both football and wrestling. In wrestling, he was recognized as one of the best in his conference for two years.

In 2003, Ryan played in a special game called the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. This game features some of the best high school football players in the country. He played alongside future Notre Dame teammates like Brady Quinn and John Carlson.

College Football Career

Many top colleges wanted Ryan Harris to play for their football teams. Some of these included Notre Dame, Iowa, Miami (FL), and Michigan. Ryan decided to play for the Fighting Irish. He was a starting offensive tackle for all four years he was there.

Playing for the Denver Broncos (First Time)

The Denver Broncos picked Ryan Harris in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He was the 70th player chosen overall. In the 2008 season, he played very well. He only allowed the opposing team to sack his quarterback, Jay Cutler, 1.5 times.

In the 2009 season, Ryan played in 8 games. He got an injury to his toes in November 2009. This injury kept him from playing for the rest of that season.

Time with the Philadelphia Eagles

In August 2011, Ryan Harris signed a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he had to have back surgery. Because of this, the Eagles released him from the team in September 2011.

Back with the Denver Broncos (Second Time)

Ryan Harris returned to the Broncos in January 2012. He joined the team to help out when another player, Chris Kuper, got injured.

He was released by the Broncos again in August 2012. The very next day, he was signed by the Houston Texans. He went to the Texans to replace an injured player named Rashad Butler.

Playing for the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans officially added Ryan Harris to their team in September 2012. He continued to play for them and re-signed with the Texans in April 2013.

With the Kansas City Chiefs

In July 2014, Ryan Harris signed a contract to play for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Winning the Super Bowl with the Broncos (Third Time)

Ryan Harris signed with the Denver Broncos for a third time in May 2015. He joined the team after their starting offensive tackle, Ryan Clady, got injured.

On February 7, 2016, Ryan Harris was part of the Broncos team that won Super Bowl 50. This was a huge achievement in his career. The Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers with a score of 24–10 in that championship game.

Final Season with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Ryan Harris signed a two-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers in March 2016. He played in some games for the Steelers. However, in October 2016, he got a shin injury. This injury was serious enough that he was placed on injured reserve. This meant he could not play for the rest of that season.

On March 3, 2017, Ryan Harris announced that he was retiring from professional football.

Ryan Harris is a devoted Muslim. Before finding his faith, he was raised in the Unitarian Universalism church. In 2003, before he started college, Ryan was featured on an MTV show called True Life. The episode was about wanting a perfect body. Today, he is a host on KKSE-FM radio.
