Ryan Ashley Humphrey was born on July 24, 1979. He is an American basketball star. Ryan used to play professionally as a power forward. Today, he is an assistant basketball coach at the University of Oklahoma. Before that, he coached at Notre Dame.

Ryan Humphrey's Basketball Journey

College Career and NBA Draft

Ryan played college basketball at two big universities. He started at the University of Oklahoma. Then, he moved to the University of Notre Dame. After his college years, Ryan was chosen in the 2002 NBA draft. The Utah Jazz picked him in the first round.

On the day of the draft, Ryan was traded to the Orlando Magic. This trade happened in exchange for another player, Curtis Borchardt. Ryan played for the Orlando Magic for about half a season.

Playing for the Grizzlies

After his time with the Magic, Ryan was traded again. He went to the Memphis Grizzlies. This trade included Mike Miller, and in return, the Magic received Drew Gooden and Gordan Giriček. Ryan played only a few games for the Grizzlies during the 2003–04 season. He then played 35 games for them in the 2004–05 season.

Final NBA Game and Career Stats

Ryan's last game in the NBA was on March 16, 2005. His team, the Memphis Grizzlies, won against the New Orleans Hornets 88–82. In that game, Ryan scored 2 points and grabbed 1 rebound.

Overall, Ryan played in 85 NBA games from 2002 to 2005. During his NBA career, he averaged 2.3 points and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Playing Overseas and Coaching

After his NBA career, Ryan tried to return to the league. He joined the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2005–06 preseason. However, he was not part of the team when the season started.

International Basketball Experience

Ryan then moved to play basketball in Italy. He joined a team called Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia in the Italian league. In September 2006, he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA. But he was waived before the season began.

Later, Ryan signed with APOEL B.C. in Cyprus. With this team, he made it to the 2007 Cypriot league finals. In 2009, he played in Spain for Baloncesto León in the LEB Oro league. In 2010, he joined Cáceres 2016. On April 4, 2013, he signed with Blancos de Rueda Valladolid.

Transition to Coaching

After his playing career, Ryan Humphrey became a basketball coach. He served as an assistant coach at Notre Dame from 2016 to 2022. Since 2022, he has been an assistant coach for the Oklahoma Sooners.
