About Ryan Stanton

Ryan Stanton was born in St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. His dad, Don, worked in construction and later became a scout for the Moose Jaw Warriors hockey team. His mom's name is Deanne.

Ryan's Hockey Journey

Playing in Junior Leagues

Before becoming a professional player, Ryan played junior hockey for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League (WHL). He played his first WHL game on March 8, 2006, when he was just 16 years old.

In late 2009, Ryan had a great streak of six games where he earned points for his team. He scored 3 goals and made 8 assists during that time. On December 11, 2009, he helped his team win big by making four assists in one game. Ryan was the top defenseman for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the 2009-10 season, with 40 points.

Becoming a Professional Player

On March 12, 2010, the Chicago Blackhawks signed Ryan to a contract. He started playing for their minor league team, the Rockford Icehogs, in the American Hockey League (AHL). His first game with the Icehogs was on March 6, 2010.

Ryan earned his first AHL point by making an assist on March 10, 2010. He scored his first professional goal on February 23, 2011. For the 2010–11 season, the Icehogs named him their Most Improved Player.

In the 2012–13 season, Ryan played his first game in the National Hockey League (NHL) with the Chicago Blackhawks. That season, the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, which is a huge achievement in hockey! Even though Ryan played in one game, he didn't play enough to have his name engraved on the Cup.

Moving to Other NHL Teams

Before the 2013–14 season, the Vancouver Canucks picked up Ryan from the Blackhawks. He scored his first NHL goal on October 17, 2013, against Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan played two seasons with the Canucks, becoming a regular player in the NHL.

On July 24, 2015, Ryan signed a contract with the Washington Capitals. After his time with the Capitals, he signed with the Colorado Avalanche. He played for their AHL team, the San Antonio Rampage.

Later in the 2016–17 season, Ryan was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. He then played for their AHL team, the Cleveland Monsters.

Later Career and Playing in Europe

On July 1, 2017, Ryan signed a two-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers. He spent his time playing for their AHL team, the Bakersfield Condors.

After his contract with the Oilers ended, Ryan signed with the Ontario Reign in the AHL on July 29, 2019. The 2019–20 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Ryan played only 36 games because of an injury.

On September 16, 2020, Ryan returned to the Bakersfield Condors for another year. Then, on August 4, 2021, he went back to his first AHL team, the Rockford Icehogs.

On July 15, 2022, Ryan signed his first contract to play hockey outside of North America. He joined the German team Kölner Haie in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). After playing in Germany, Ryan moved to another European league, the ICEHL. On April 19, 2023, he joined the Italian team HC Pustertal Wölfe, where he plays today.
