Ryuji Ishizue, born on July 22, 1964, is a well-known Japanese football player. He used to play as a goalkeeper. After his playing days, he became a coach. Today, he works as a goalkeeper coach for Albirex Niigata, a team in Japan's top football league, the J1 League.

Ryuji Ishizue's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Ryuji Ishizue was born in Itami, Japan, on July 22, 1964. After finishing university at Tokai University, he joined a football club called All Nippon Airways in 1987. This club later became known as Yokohama Flügels.
He started playing more and more for the team. By the 1989–90 season, he had become the main goalkeeper. However, in the next season, 1990–91, he played less often because of a new player named Masanori Sanada. Even when Sanada left the club in 1992, Ryuji Ishizue still didn't play as much as another goalkeeper, Atsuhiko Mori.
Winning the Emperor's Cup
In 1993, his team, Yokohama Flügels, won a very important competition called the Emperor's Cup. This was the club's first big championship title! Ryuji Ishizue played in the final match of this cup. It was his only game that entire season, but it was a very important one.
Moving to Vissel Kobe
In 1995, Ryuji Ishizue moved to a new team, Vissel Kobe. This club was from his hometown area. At Vissel Kobe, he became the regular goalkeeper again. He helped the team do very well. In 1997, Vissel Kobe was promoted to the J1 League, which is Japan's highest football league.
In 1998, he played less often because of another goalkeeper named Nobuhiro Maeda. At the end of the 1998 season, Ryuji Ishizue decided to retire from playing professional football. Throughout his career, he played in over 160 official matches.
