Sávio Bortolini Pimentel, born on January 9, 1974, is a famous retired Brazilian football player. He was known simply as Sávio. He played as a left winger, which is a player who attacks from the side of the field.

Fans and the media sometimes called him "Anjo Loiro" (which means "Blonde Angel") or "Diabo Loiro" ("Blonde Devil"). Sávio spent most of his career playing in Spain. He was a key part of the Real Madrid team for four and a half seasons. Overall, he played over 300 official games for four different teams.

Sávio also played for the Brazilian national team in the mid-to-late 1990s. He even represented Brazil in the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Sávio's Club Career Highlights

Sávio started his football journey in his hometown of Vila Velha, Brazil. He joined the youth team of Desportiva Capixaba.

Playing for Flamengo and Real Madrid

While still a young player, Sávio moved to Rio de Janeiro to join Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. This is where he started his professional career. People were very excited about him, comparing him to the legendary player Zico. This was because of his amazing football skills.

In 1995, Flamengo celebrated its 100th birthday. Sávio played alongside famous players like Romário and Edmundo during this special time.

In 1998, Sávio moved to Real Madrid, one of the biggest clubs in Spain. He helped Real Madrid win three UEFA Champions League titles. These are very important competitions for European clubs. He also helped them win the Spanish national championship in 2001. During the 2002–03 season, he played for FC Girondins de Bordeaux in France on a loan.

Time with Real Zaragoza and Return to Flamengo

After his time at Real Madrid, Sávio returned to Spain. He became a very important player for Real Zaragoza, where he played for three years. In his first season with Zaragoza (2003–04), his team won the Copa del Rey, which is a major Spanish cup competition. They even beat his old team, Real Madrid, in the final! In his second season (2004–05), he scored his highest number of league goals in one year, with ten goals.

In May 2006, Sávio went back to Brazil to play for Flamengo again. He signed a contract to play until December 2007. However, in January 2007, he moved back to Spain to play for Real Sociedad. He played his first game for them on January 21. Later that year, after Real Sociedad was moved down to a lower league, he joined another Spanish team, Levante UD. He played there until January 2008, leaving because some players were not getting paid.

Sávio's Final Years in Football

After playing briefly for his very first club, Desportiva Capixaba, Sávio signed with Anorthosis Famagusta FC in Cyprus in August 2008. He even played for them in the 2008–09 UEFA Champions League. In January 2010, at 36 years old, he returned to Brazil and joined Avaí Futebol Clube.

After playing for a few months with Avaí, Sávio decided to retire from professional football at the end of 2010.

Sávio's International Career

Sávio played for the Brazilian national team, but he never played in a FIFA World Cup. He did play in the 1995 Copa América, where Brazil lost the final to Uruguay after a penalty shootout.
