Sabre Springs is a neighborhood in San Diego, California. It is located in the northeastern part of the city. This community is bordered by Poway to the east. Ted Williams Parkway is to the north. Interstate 15 is to the west. And Miramar Ranch North is to the south. Poway Road runs through the middle of Sabre Springs, dividing it from north to south.
Other nearby neighborhoods include Carmel Mountain to the north. Rancho Peñasquitos is to the west. And Scripps Ranch is to the south.
Sabre Springs also has a business park. It is home to several important companies. These include General Atomics - Aeronautical. They make parts from special materials. Other companies are Bridgepoint Education and Hospira.

History of Sabre Springs
Sabre Springs has a long history. Three different Native American groups lived here. They lived in the area at different times.
- The San Dieguito people lived here from about 12,000 to 8,000 years ago.
- The La Jolla people lived here from about 8,000 to 3,000 years ago.
- The Northern Diegueno people lived here from about 2,500 years ago. They were here until the Spanish arrived.
Archaeologists have found signs of two villages. One village was along Chicarita Creek. The other was along Peñasquitos Creek.
Ranches and Early Owners
After the Spanish came, the Sabre Springs area was near two big ranches. These were Rancho Peñasquitos and Rancho Bernardo. In the 1800s and 1900s, different owners used the land. They raised cattle and sheep there.
In the 1900s, a large part of Sabre Springs belonged to the family of Florence Chadwick. She was a famous swimmer. Later, the Sabre Petroleum Corporation owned the land. There was not much building on the land until the 1980s.
Developing the Community
Plans to build in this area started in the 1970s. In 1979, the City of San Diego made a plan. This plan helped guide how the city would grow. In 1982, the Sabre Springs Community Plan was approved. It planned for a neighborhood with mostly homes. It also included areas for businesses and large open spaces.
Pardee Homes started building houses. The first homes opened in 1985. More homes were built throughout the 1990s. By 2010, most of Sabre Springs was built.
Parks and Trails
Sabre Springs has several parks and trails for outdoor fun.
Community Parks
- Sabre Springs Park is a great place to play. It is located east of Sabre Springs Parkway and Evening Creek Drive South. The park has two small play areas for young children. It also has two Little League fields for baseball.
- South Creek Park is found on Wickerbay Cove. It is right next to Creekside Elementary School. This park has a playground for kids. It also has a Little League field. You can directly access the Peñasquitos Creek trail from here.
- Carmel Mountain Ranch / Sabre Springs Recreation Center is north of Ted Williams Parkway. Even though it shares the name, this park is actually in Carmel Mountain. It has courts for basketball. There are also two baseball diamonds. And it has a fun playground.
Nature Trails
Two trails run through Sabre Springs. They are perfect for walking or biking.
- One trail follows Chicarita Creek. It runs between Evening Creek Drive and Sabre Springs Parkway.
- A second trail goes along Peñasquitos Creek. It stretches between Springhurst Drive and Interstate 15. This trail is part of the larger Trans-County Trail system.

Students in Sabre Springs attend schools in the Poway Unified School District. The community has two elementary schools. The middle and high schools are in nearby neighborhoods.
