Carmel Mountain Ranch, often called Carmel Mountain or CMR by people who live there, is a community in San Diego, California, United States. It's located in the northeastern part of the city. Even though it's called "Carmel Mountain Ranch," it's actually closer to Black Mountain. The actual Carmel Mountain is about 10 miles to the west.

Where is Carmel Mountain Ranch?
This community is next to the city of Poway on its east side. On all other sides, it's surrounded by other San Diego communities. To the north, you'll find Rancho Bernardo. To the west is Rancho Peñasquitos, and to the south is Sabre Springs.
Shopping and Businesses
Carmel Mountain Ranch has many places to shop and work. It's known as an "edge city," which means it's a big center for jobs outside of a main downtown area.

Local Businesses
The Carmel Mountain Ranch area is a major spot for offices in San Diego County. It has over 6 million square feet of office space.
The Carvin Corporation, a company that makes musical instruments, has its main office nearby. There's also the Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club, which used to be a golf course.
The United States Postal Service has a large mail processing center here. It opened in 1993 and employs over 1,500 people. This center sorts mail for a huge area, from Fallbrook in the north to Tecate in the east. During the busy holiday season, it handles more than 300 million mail items!
Getting Around
Carmel Mountain Ranch is easy to get to, especially with major roads nearby.
Main Roads
I-15 runs along the western side of Carmel Mountain. You'll see a special stone marker with a sign and flags when you're driving north on I-15, right before the Carmel Mountain Road exit. This exit is the main way to get into the community.
SR 56 turns into Ted Williams Parkway when it enters the community. This road is still like a freeway until it crosses Rancho Carmel Drive. These major roads make it easy for people to travel to and from Carmel Mountain Ranch.
Public Transport
There are local bus routes available. While it's not directly in Carmel Mountain Ranch, the Sabre Springs / Penasquitos Transit Station is very close. This station gives you direct access to special express lanes on I-15, making commutes faster.
Community Fun and Events
Carmel Mountain Ranch hosts fun events for everyone.
Every year, the local Chamber of Commerce holds a fall festival. Local businesses, community groups, and schools set up booths. It's a great way for people to learn about what's happening in the community.
Holiday Magic at Fairway Village
The Fairway Village neighborhood puts on an amazing Christmas light show called "Holiday Magic at Fairway Village." From December 1st to January 1st, over 85 homes light up with festive decorations.
On the Saturday before Christmas, the neighborhood has a big block party that's open to everyone. Visitors can walk around, enjoy the lights, and even get snacks and hot drinks from many homes. This event has been featured in San Diego Family magazine. The neighborhood is also very popular for Halloween because it's a large street with no hills, making it safe and fun for trick-or-treating.
Parks and Outdoor Fun
Carmel Mountain Ranch has parks where you can relax and play.
Carmel Mountain Ranch Community Park is located just north of Ted Williams Parkway. Highland Ranch Park is also available for outdoor activities. The former Carmel Mountain Ranch golf course is a large area within the community.
Schools in the Area
Students in Carmel Mountain Ranch attend schools in the Poway Unified School District.
High Schools
After middle school, students usually go to Mt. Carmel High School, Poway High School, or Rancho Bernardo High School.

Elementary school students move on to Bernardo Heights Middle School in Rancho Bernardo, Meadowbrook Middle School, or Black Mountain Middle School in Rancho Peñasquitos.

Sports and Activities
There are many sports leagues for kids in Carmel Mountain Ranch. You can join a baseball league for kindergarten through 8th grade. There's also a youth basketball league and other fun recreational sports.
