Folasade Olayinka Baderinwa, known as Sade Baderinwa, is an American television journalist. Born on April 14, 1969, she has been a news anchor at WABC-TV since 2003. WABC-TV is a major ABC station in New York City. Currently, she co-anchors the 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Eyewitness News shows with Bill Ritter.

Early Life and Education

Sade Baderinwa was born to a Nigerian father and a German mother. When she was seven, her mother left, and her father moved back to Africa. Sade was then cared for by a family friend. Later, she was adopted in Baltimore by Edie House, a news anchor at WBAL-TV. Edie's parents also helped support Sade.

When Sade was 12, her birth mother took her in to live with her family in Montgomery County, Maryland. Sade has stayed in touch with both her biological parents and her adoptive family.

Sade Baderinwa went to the University of Maryland, College Park. She earned a degree in agricultural business and resource economics from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Career Highlights

Starting in Journalism

Sade Baderinwa began her career working behind the scenes at ABC News. She helped with shows like This Week With David Brinkley, Nightline, and World News Tonight.

After that, she became a reporter trainee at WUSA-TV in Washington, D.C.. She then worked as a reporter at WSLS-TV in Roanoke, Virginia. In February 2000, Sade joined WBAL-TV in Baltimore. There, she anchored the morning and noon news. She also hosted a weekly show about community topics.

Joining WABC-TV

In 2003, Sade Baderinwa moved to WABC-TV in New York. She started as a reporter and anchor for the noon news. Later, she became a co-anchor for the 5 p.m. newscast with Diana Williams.

On July 23, 2004, while reporting on flooding in Hackensack, New Jersey, Sade was hit by a car. The driver did not stop. She was seriously hurt and needed many surgeries and months of physical therapy. Sade returned to work on December 13, 2004. She continued her physical therapy even after coming back on air. The driver who hit her was never found.

On October 27, 2006, Sade Baderinwa was a guest co-host on the talk show The View.

In May 2011, Sade became the co-anchor of the 11 p.m. newscast with Bill Ritter. She took over from Liz Cho, who moved to anchor the station's new 4 p.m. news show.

Sade has also often led discussions at the United Nations' celebration of International Women's Day.
