Sadeque Hossain Khoka (born May 12, 1952 – died November 4, 2019) was an important politician from Bangladesh. He served as the second mayor of Dhaka City Corporation from 2002 to 2011. He was also a top leader in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. He led the Dhaka city branch of this party for a very long time.

Who Was Sadeque Hossain Khoka?
Sadeque Hossain Khoka was a well-known figure in Bangladeshi politics. He was born into a Muslim family. His father was an engineer and also did a lot of social work. Khoka's journey in public service began early in his life.
Early Life and Education
Khoka was born in 1952. He went to Dhaka University. There, he earned a Master's degree in psychology. When he was just 19 years old, in 1971, he bravely fought in the Bangladesh Liberation War. This war helped Bangladesh become an independent country.
A Leader in Sports
After Bangladesh became independent, Khoka helped organize soccer events. He became the General Secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan Football Association. He also served as the Joint General Secretary of the Bangladesh Football Federation. Khoka was very important to the football club Brothers Union. He helped make it a strong team.
Journey in Politics
Khoka first became a member of the Jatiyo Sangshad (Bangladesh's national legislature) in 1991. In the same year, he was made the State Minister of Youth and Sports. This role meant he helped lead programs for young people and sports.
He won elections again in 1996 and 2001. After his party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, won in 2001, Khoka became the Cabinet Minister of Fisheries and Livestock. This job involved looking after the country's fishing and animal farming.
Becoming Mayor of Dhaka
While he was a minister, Khoka decided to run for mayor of Dhaka City Corporation. He won the election and became the Mayor of Dhaka on April 25, 2002. He held both the Minister and Mayor positions until 2004. Then, he resigned from his role as Minister to focus on being Mayor.
Khoka stopped being the Mayor of Dhaka on November 29, 2011. This happened when the government decided to divide the Dhaka City Corporation into two parts. These new parts were named DCC North and DCC South.
His Family
Sadeque Hossain Khoka was married to Ismat Ara. They had two sons and one daughter. His oldest son, Ishraque Hossain, is also a politician. He ran for mayor in Dhaka in 2018. His other son, Ishfaque Hossain, studied at the University of Hertfordshire. His daughter, Sarika Sadeque, is married to Ahmed Iftekhar. Both Sarika and Ahmed earned their MBA degrees from Durham University.
Later Years and Passing
Sadeque Hossain Khoka sadly passed away on November 4, 2019. He died from cancer in New York City.
