Sadri (also known as Nagpuri) is a language spoken in India. It belongs to the Indo-Aryan language family. This family includes many languages spoken across India.

Sadri is mainly spoken in the Indian states of Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. It is the native language for the Sadaan people. They are a group living in the Chota Nagpur region.

Many tribal groups also use Sadri as a common language. This means they use it to talk to people who speak different languages. Some groups, like the Kharia and Munda, have even started using Sadri as their main language. You can also find Sadri speakers among tea garden workers in Assam, West Bengal, and Bangladesh.

Writing Sadri: Scripts Used

A script is the set of written symbols used for a language. In the past, people wrote Nagpuri poems using either the Devanagari or Kaithi script.

Today, Sadri is most often written using the Devanagari script. This is the same script used for writing Hindi and Nepali.

Where Sadri is Spoken

The Nagpuri language is mostly spoken in the western part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. This area is in west-central Jharkhand. Some districts where it is common include Latehar, Lohardaga, and Ranchi.

It is also spoken in northeast Chhattisgarh, in districts like Jashpur. You can find speakers in northern Odisha, especially in Sundargarh. In southwest Bihar, it is spoken in the Aurangabad district.

Other Names for Sadri

The Sadri language has several other names. Some of these names are Sadani, Sadari, and Sadhan. It is also known as Nagpuria or Nagpuri. Sometimes, people call it Chota Nagpuri or Dikku Kaji.
