Safra Ada Catz, born in December 1961, is a very successful Israeli-American business leader in the technology world. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Oracle Corporation, a huge computer technology company. Safra Catz joined Oracle in April 1999. She became a member of its board of directors in 2001. In 2011, she was named co-president and chief financial officer (CFO). Later, in 2014, she became a joint CEO with Mark Hurd. Since September 2019, Safra Catz has been the sole CEO of Oracle.

Early Life and Education

Safra Catz was born in December 1961 in Holon, Israel. Her family moved to Brookline, Massachusetts, in the United States when she was six years old.

She finished high school at Brookline High School. Safra Catz then went to the University of Pennsylvania. She earned a bachelor's degree from the Wharton School in 1983. After that, she received a law degree (called a Juris Doctor) from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1986.

Career at Oracle

Before joining Oracle, Safra Catz worked as a banker. She was a managing director at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1997 to 1999. She had held various banking roles there since 1986.

Joining Oracle Corporation

Safra Catz started working at Oracle Corporation in April 1999. She quickly moved up in the company. By October 2001, she became a member of Oracle's board of directors. In early 2004, she was named president of the company.

Key Role in Oracle's Growth

Safra Catz played a big part in Oracle's growth. She is known for leading Oracle's efforts to buy a rival software company, PeopleSoft, in 2005. This deal was worth $10.3 billion. She also served as Oracle's chief financial officer (CFO) at different times.

In 2010, Mark Hurd joined her as co-president. When Oracle's founder, Larry Ellison, stepped down as CEO in 2014, Safra Catz and Mark Hurd became co-CEOs. After Mark Hurd passed away in 2019, Safra Catz became the only CEO of Oracle.
