Sagerton is a small place in Haskell County, Texas, United States. It's called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government like a city does.

The Story of Sagerton: How It Began

Sagerton was started in 1905. It was named after W. M. Sager, who gave the land for the town. This information comes from the Handbook of Texas.

Why Sagerton Was Important

Sagerton became a busy spot for shipping farm products. Farmers would send their cotton, cattle, and chickens from here. This was possible because of a new railroad called the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway.

Later, in 1909, another railroad, the Stamford and Northwestern Railway, also served Sagerton. This line connected Stamford to Spur.

Challenges Sagerton Faced

Sagerton had some tough times.

  • Big fires in 1917 and 1926 caused a lot of damage to buildings.
  • The town's bank, which opened in 1908, closed down in 1931.
