Saginaw Grant's Early Life
Saginaw Morgan Grant was born on July 20, 1936, in Pawnee, Oklahoma. His parents were Sarah and Austin Grant. He was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation of Oklahoma. His mother's family came from the Iowa and Otoe-Missouria tribes. Before becoming an actor, Saginaw served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Saginaw Grant's Acting Career
Saginaw Grant appeared in many movies and television shows. He often played wise and strong Native American characters.
One of his early roles was in 1993. He played a character named Grey Cloud in an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. In this show, he acted alongside famous actor Harrison Ford. Also in 1993, he had a regular role as Auggie Velasquez in the TV series Harts of the West. Auggie owned a general store in a small town.
In 1999, Saginaw played the Gatekeeper in the movie Purgatory. Later, in 2013, he took on the role of Chief Big Bear in the movie The Lone Ranger. That same year, he had a memorable appearance in the TV show Breaking Bad. He played a man who sold his truck to the main character, Walter White, in the episode called "Ozymandias."
From 2012, Saginaw Grant was an important member of the American Indian Advisory Board for the San Diego International Film Festival. This board helps make sure Native American voices and stories are included in films.
