Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is a lively town located in western France. It is part of the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire region. This charming place sits right on the beautiful Côte de Lumière, also known as the "Coast of Light."
The town you see today was created in 1967. It was formed by joining two older communities. These were Saint-Gilles-sur-Vie and Croix-de-Vie. They were located on opposite sides of the estuary of the Vie River.
Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is famous for its busy fishing harbor. It is especially known for catching lots of sardines. Since 1982, it has also been recognized as a popular seaside resort. This means it's a great spot for vacations and enjoying the beach!
