History of the Summit
The very top of Saint Regis Mountain is made of bare rock. This is because a long time ago, in 1876, a fire accidentally cleared away the trees. A group of surveyors, led by a person named Verplanck Colvin, were working there when the fire started.
The Fire Observation Station
At the summit, there's a special building called the St. Regis Mountain Fire Observation Station. This station was used to spot forest fires from high up. It was fixed up in 2016 and is now open for visitors to explore. It's a cool piece of history and offers even more great views!
