The Sajha Party (Nepali: साझा पार्टी) was a political group in Nepal. It was started by Rabindra Mishra, who used to be the main editor for BBC Nepali Service. Political parties are groups of people who share similar ideas about how a country should be run. They work together to get their members elected to government.

How the Sajha Party Started

The Sajha Party was created in 2017. Its founder, Rabindra Mishra, wanted it to be a new kind of political party. They aimed to be an "alternative" choice for voters. This meant they wanted to offer different ideas from the older, more traditional parties.

The party believed in something called a "welfare economy." This idea focuses on making sure everyone in society has a good quality of life. They also looked at how democracies work in other parts of the world for inspiration.

In 2017, the Sajha Party took part in local elections in Nepal. These elections choose leaders for cities and towns. Their candidates, Ramesh Maharjan and Kishore Thapa, did well in the cities of Kathmandu and Lalitpur. They finished third and fourth in those elections.

However, the party did not have as much success outside the Kathmandu Valley. Their candidates in places like Itahari received fewer votes.

Joining Forces: The Bibeksheel Sajha Story

On July 26, 2017, the Sajha Party announced a big change. They decided to join with another party called Bibeksheel Nepali Dal. When two parties merge, they become one larger party. This new combined party was named Bibeksheel Sajha Party.

Rabindra Mishra and Ujwal Bahadur Thapa led the new Bibeksheel Sajha Party together. They chose "scales" as their symbol for elections.

But the merger did not last forever. On January 11, 2019, the party split apart. Ujwal Thapa and 16 other members decided to restart their old party, Bibeksheel Nepali Dal.

After this split, the Sajha Party changed its name for a short time to Sajha Bibeksheel Party. Later, it went back to being just the Sajha Party.

Then, on October 20, 2020, the Sajha Party announced they were talking about merging again. They were speaking with the Bibeksheel Nepali Dal once more. On December 9, 2020, the two parties officially merged again. They formed the Bibeksheel Sajha Party for a second time.

Where Sajha Party Has Been Active

Political parties try to win "seats" in different government bodies. A seat means a position or a place in an assembly where laws are made. In Nepal, there are assemblies for each province. The Sajha Party won one seat in the Bagmati Province during the 2017 elections.
