The Story of Sajha Party
How Sajha Party Began
The Sajha Party was created in 2017 by Rabindra Mishra. He was a well-known journalist before starting the party. The party aimed to be a different kind of political group. It focused on ideas like a "welfare economy." This means making sure everyone in the country has a good life. It also believed in global ideas of democracy, where people have a say in how they are governed.
First Elections and Challenges
In 2017, the Sajha Party took part in local elections. Their candidates ran as independent politicians. In Kathmandu and Lalitpur, two big cities, their candidates did quite well. For example, Ramesh Maharjan and Kishore Thapa finished third and fourth in the mayoral races. Sobha Shakya came in second for deputy mayor in Lalitpur. However, outside the Kathmandu Valley, the party did not get many votes.
Joining Forces: Bibeksheel Sajha
On July 26, 2017, the Sajha Party announced it would join with another party. This party was called Bibeksheel Nepali Dal. Together, they formed a new party named Bibeksheel Sajha Party. This new party was led by both Rabindra Mishra and Ujwal Bahadur Thapa. They chose scales as their symbol for elections.
Splits and Reunions
The Bibeksheel Sajha Party faced some challenges. On January 11, 2019, the party split. Ujwal Thapa and 16 other members decided to restart their old party, Bibeksheel Nepali Dal. The remaining party changed its name to Sajha Bibeksheel Party. Later, it went back to being called Sajha Party.
However, the two parties started talking again in October 2020. They decided to merge once more. On December 9, 2020, they officially joined together again. They formed the Bibeksheel Sajha Party for a second time.
