Political Journey
Saleh Ali al-Sammad was born on January 1, 1979. His birthplace was Bani Ma'az in Yemen's Sahar District.
Early Political Roles
In September 2014, he was chosen to be a political adviser. He worked for President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Al-Sammad tried to be friendly and cooperative during a time of change in Yemen. This was during and after the 2014–2015 political events. In November 2014, the Houthis left Yemen's "unity government." Even so, he supported most of President Hadi's choices for his government. This included the Prime Minister, Khaled Bahah.
Becoming a Houthi Leader
By February 2015, the Houthi group had taken control of the government. At this time, al-Sammad was seen as the main Houthi leader in Sana'a, the capital city.
In February 2015, al-Sammad said the Houthis wanted to have normal relationships. They hoped to be friends with the United States and other countries. He also suggested that the group was open to sharing power. They wanted to work with other political groups. This might include members of the old parliament. They planned to create a new parliament with 551 members.
Leading the Supreme Political Council
On August 6, 2016, al-Sammad became the head of the Supreme Political Council. He officially took his oath on August 14.
The Supreme Revolutionary Committee then gave its power to the Supreme Political Council. This happened on August 15, 2016.
His Passing
On April 23, 2018, Al-Sammad was killed. This happened during a drone strike by a group led by Saudi Arabia. He was the highest-ranking Houthi official to die in this conflict. The weapon used was a missile, possibly from a special drone.
Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, who is the top leader of the Houthi movement, spoke about this. He said that "the forces of aggression, led by America and Saudi Arabia, are responsible for this crime." He also said they would be responsible for anything that followed.
