Early Life and Beginnings
Salem Saleh Salem bin Braik was born in Mukalla, a city by the sea in eastern Yemen. This happened on April 3, 1965. Mukalla is located along the Gulf of Aden.
Serving His Country
Before becoming Prime Minister, Mr. bin Braik worked as the Finance Minister. This means he was in charge of the country's money matters. He became Prime Minister after the previous leader, Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak, left his position. Mr. Mubarak had faced many challenges in his role. He also had disagreements with the head of Yemen's presidential council about changes in the government.
Mr. bin Braik took on the role of Prime Minister during a very challenging time for Yemen. The country has been going through a long period of conflict. Different groups have been trying to lead the country. One group, known as the Houthis, controls important areas, including the capital city, Sanaa. Countries like the United States have been working to protect ships in the Red Sea. This is to stop attacks on boats carrying goods.
On December 5, 2025, Mr. bin Braik traveled from Aden to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This happened after another group, the Southern Transitional Council, took control of many parts of southern Yemen. He later attended an important meeting in Riyadh on December 26, 2025. This meeting was with Yemen's National Defence Council.
