Exploring Salineville's Past
Salineville was first planned out in 1839. It officially became a village in 1848. The area was named "Salineville" because of the natural salt deposits found along Yellow Creek. Salinity means how much salt is in something.
The Civil War and Morgan's Raid
A famous event from the American Civil War happened near Salineville. This was the Battle of Salineville on July 26, 1863. This battle was the end of Morgan's Raid. During this raid, Confederate General John Hunt Morgan and his soldiers rode through Union territory. They were eventually captured near Salineville.
