Salto Abajo is a neighborhood, called a barrio, located in the town of Utuado, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,929 people lived there.

Exploring Salto Abajo's Location
Salto Abajo is a place in Puerto Rico. It sits about 568 feet (173 meters) above sea level. This neighborhood is just north of another area called Salto Arriba.
The total size of Salto Abajo is about 2.66 square miles (6.89 square kilometers). A very small part of this area, about 0.03 square miles (0.08 square kilometers), is water.
A Look at Salto Abajo's History
Puerto Rico used to be controlled by Spain. After the Spanish–American War ended in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. It then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government counted all the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that 836 people lived in Salto Abajo at that time.

Important Features of Salto Abajo
Salto Abajo once had a special rope bridge. This bridge was sadly destroyed by Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Some engineering students from the University of New Mexico and the University of Texas at El Paso started to rebuild it. However, they were not able to finish the work.
