Club History and Achievements
SAK 1914 was started by students from a local school. The club officially began in 1914. Their very first game was against FC Traunstein, which they lost 1-4.
Before World War II, SAK 1914 was the top football club in Salzburg. They reached the final of the Austrian amateur championship three times. This happened in 1934, 1935, and 1937. Overall, they won 30 championships in Salzburg.
Some SAK players were part of the Austrian team at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. These players were Eduard Kainberger, Karl Kainberger, Ernst Bacher, and Adolf Laudon. The Austrian team won the silver medal at these Olympic Games.
After the war, other clubs like SV Austria Salzburg became more successful. However, SAK was the first team from Salzburg to play in Austria's highest football league. They played in this top league in 1952, 1961-62, and 1980-81. In total, SAK played nine seasons in professional leagues. But in 1988, they moved down from the second division. Since then, they have played in amateur leagues.
The 2007-08 season was the last one at their old stadium, the SAK Sportanlage Nonntal. This stadium was renovated and is now called Sportzentrum Mitte. SAK shares this field with another club, UFC Salzburg.
