San Carlos is a neighborhood in San Diego, California. It is located in the eastern part of the city. San Carlos shares its borders with other neighborhoods like Del Cerro, Tierrasanta, and Allied Gardens. It also touches the city of La Mesa and Mission Trails Regional Park. The neighborhood even reaches up to Cowles Mountain in the north.
San Carlos is known for being close to Mission Trails Regional Park. It is also near the man-made Lake Murray. Most of the homes in this area are single-family houses.
History of San Carlos
The area of San Carlos was developed by a person named Carlos Tavares. The neighborhood was named after him. It was officially founded in 1970. Carlos Tavares also named another area, Clairemont, after his wife Claire.
San Carlos hosts a fun event every year. It is an Independence Day fireworks show. There is also a music festival that happens at the same time. This event is organized and paid for by a group of volunteers.
Schools in San Carlos
The San Diego Unified School District serves the students in San Carlos. The neighborhood has several elementary schools. These include Daillard, Gage, Green, and Benchley/Weinberger Elementary Schools. There are also two middle schools: Lewis Middle School and Pershing Middle School. For high school students, Patrick Henry High School serves San Carlos. It also serves the nearby communities of Allied Gardens and Del Cerro.
Community Facilities
San Carlos has several places for the community to enjoy. The San Carlos Recreation Center is owned by the city. It first opened in 1970. There is also a private park called Del Cerro Park and Pool. Other popular spots for fun include Lake Murray Community Park. People also enjoy Mission Trails Regional Park Lake Murray and the Lake Murray Tennis Club.
