Amazing Architecture
St. Peter's Church and its tower are great examples of two cool building styles. These are Aragonese Mudéjar and Romanesque architecture.
What is Mudéjar Style?
Mudéjar is a unique Spanish art and building style. It mixes Christian and Islamic ideas. It was created by Muslim craftspeople who stayed in Spain after Christian kingdoms took over. They used materials like brick and glazed tiles.
Romanesque Features
Romanesque architecture was popular in Europe before the Gothic style. It often features thick walls, round arches, and strong, simple shapes.
The Bell Tower
The church's bell tower is made of brick. It has beautiful shiny ceramic tiles decorating it. Imagine how it must sparkle in the sun!
Church Design
The outside of the church also has pretty tiles. It has a rounded back part called an apse. This apse is made even stronger with tower-like structures. Inside, the church has one main open space, called a nave. The ceiling is shaped with pointed arches, known as an ogive vault. There are also smaller chapels along the sides.
A World Heritage Site
St. Peter's Church and its tower are very important. They are part of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon World Heritage Site. This means they are recognized by UNESCO as special places that belong to everyone in the world. They are also considered important landmarks in the Province of Teruel.
