Sandalwood is found along the Karoonda Highway. It sits between the towns of Karoonda and Alawoona. The Loxton railway line also passes through the area.
A Look Back in Time
Sandalwood started as a railway siding. This was a short track next to the main railway line. It was used for trains to stop or let other trains pass. The railway line opened in 1913. The town was officially established on April 9, 1914.
Early Services
After the railway, a post office opened in Sandalwood in 1914. This allowed people to send and receive mail. A school also opened in 1919. These services helped the small community grow. However, today, the post office, school, and railway siding have all closed down.
Who Lives in Sandalwood?
