About Marama
How Marama Started
The official government town of Marama was created on August 23, 1917. It was built on land in an area called the Hundred of Molineux. This land was just south of the Marama railway station. The railway station itself had been built almost two years earlier.
The name "Marama" comes from an Aboriginal word. This word means "black duck." The boundaries for the wider Marama area were set on November 11, 1999. These boundaries include the original town site, which is near the center of the area.
What You Can Find in Marama Today
Marama is located on the road that connects Karoonda to Lameroo. Today, there are only a few things left in the town. These include a memorial hall, a post office, and an automated telephone exchange.
Marama's Government Areas
