Sandford is a small community located in Tasmania, Australia. It's part of the Clarence local government area, which is like its local council. Sandford is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) southeast of Rosny Park. In 2016, a count of the population showed that 1,883 people lived in Sandford.
This area is found on the South Arm Peninsula, just outside the city of Hobart. Sandford has a Rifle Club located on Rifle Range Road. It's far enough from Hobart to have lots of natural bushland. But it's also close enough for people to travel to Hobart for work or school. Many people who live in Sandford have large properties. They use these for farming or for fun activities.
History of Sandford
Sandford was officially named as a locality in 1966. Before that, it had a different name. A Post Office called "Muddy Plains Post Office" opened here on November 20, 1850. This post office was later renamed "Sandford" in 1887. It continued to serve the community until it closed in 1972.
Geography and Surroundings
Sandford is surrounded by water on its western, southern, and eastern sides. The waters of Ralphs Bay form the western edge of Sandford. Frederick Henry Bay makes up most of its southern and eastern borders. These bays are important natural features of the area.
Roads and Transport
The main road that goes through Sandford is Route B33, also known as South Arm Road. This road runs from the north of Sandford to the south. It helps connect the community to other places nearby.
