History of Sansha City
In 2012, Sansha City was officially created. Its main job is to look after several groups of islands and reefs in the South China Sea. These include the Spratly and Paracel Islands, as well as the Macclesfield Bank.
Some of the areas that Sansha City manages are also claimed by other countries. This means there are ongoing disagreements about who owns these territories.
The city plans to develop new ways for businesses to operate, even if they are not physically present. By early 2013, 11 companies had already registered in Sansha. These companies pay their taxes in Sansha.
