How Santa Clara Got Its Name

For a long time, this village was actually known by a different name: "Central." Its post office first opened under the name "Central" on January 8, 1887. However, in 1996, the village's name was officially changed to "Santa Clara."

Where is Santa Clara Located?

Santa Clara is found in the eastern part of Grant County. A major road, U.S. Route 180, runs around the north and east sides of the village. This road can take you about 7 miles (11 km) west to Silver City, which is the main town of the county. If you go south on the same road, you'll reach Bayard in about 2 miles (3 km).

The village itself covers a total area of about 2 square miles (5.19 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.04 square kilometers), being water.
