Santa Fe Lake is a special kind of lake called a reservoir. It is located about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) south of downtown Williams in North Central Arizona. A reservoir is like a big storage tank for water, often made by building a dam.
The lake was created by the Santa Fe Dam, which is built from red sandstone. The lake gets its name from the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway. This railway used to need a lot of water for its steam locomotives when they traveled through Williams. So, they built this reservoir to store water just for those trains!
