Scano di Montiferro (Sardinian: Iscanu) is a small town in Italy. It is located on the island of Sardinia, in the Province of Oristano. The town is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northwest of Cagliari and 35 kilometers (22 miles) north of Oristano.
Scano di Montiferro shares its borders with several other towns. These include Borore, Cuglieri, Flussio, Macomer, Sagama, Santu Lussurgiu, Sennariolo, and Sindia.

Exploring Scano's Past
The area around Scano has been home to people for a very long time. We know this because of ancient discoveries found there. These include special tombs called Domus de janas and giants' graves. There are also many old stone towers known as nuraghe.
In the Middle Ages, Scano was part of a region called Montiferro. This region belonged to the giudicato of Torres. Later, in 1259, it became part of the giudicato of Arborea. In 1410, the town came under the control of the Aragonese rulers. By 1421, it was part of the lands owned by the Catalan Zatrillas family.
Discovering Scano's Geography
The town of Scano di Montiferro sits on the slopes of the Montiferru mountain. It is known as one of the healthiest places on the island. The town is about 380 meters (1,247 feet) above sea level. It is also just a few kilometers from the sea.
Scano is built on the crater of an ancient volcano. Its land is made of basaltic rocks. The area has many hills and valleys. Small streams and rivers flow through these valleys. The highest point nearby is "Sa Pattada," which is about 980 meters (3,215 feet) high.

Scano di Montiferro has many interesting places to visit.
- Nuraghe Nuracale: This is a famous ancient stone tower. There are also about 50 other nuraghe in the area.
- Domus de Janas: These are ancient tombs carved into rock. Their name means "houses of the fairies."
- Giants' Graves: These are large, ancient burial sites. They were built with big stones.

Scano di Montiferro is known for its tasty local dishes.
- Timballa de Arrosu: This is a special rice dish. It is a timbale filled with meats and vegetables.

Wildfire in 2021
In 2021, a large wildfire affected parts of Sardinia. This included the area around Scano di Montiferro. Firefighters worked hard to control the blaze. The fire caused damage to the landscape.
