Macomer (called Macumère in the local Sardinian language) is a town in Sardinia, Italy. It is located in the province of Nuoro. Macomer sits on the way up to a central plateau called Campeda. It's also where smaller train lines connect to the main railway. These lines go east to Nuoro and west to Bosa.
The area around Macomer, especially the Campeda plateau, is great for raising animals. People here do a lot of horse and cattle breeding.

Discover Macomer: A Journey Through Time
Macomer has a very long history. The ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy even knew it as "Macopsissa." This shows that people have lived here for a very long time.
Important Moments in History
In 1478, a big battle happened in Macomer. It was fought between the people of Sardinia and the Aragonese. This battle was very important because it ended Sardinia's independence.
Later, in 1767, Macomer became the main town of an area called the Marquisate of Marghine. This was under the Kingdom of Sardinia. The Marquisate included several nearby villages like Birori, Bolotana, and Borore.
The Venus of Macomer
In 1949, something amazing was found in a cave near Macomer. It was a small statue called The Venus of Macomer. This statue shows a Goddess Mother and is very old, from the Palaeolithic period (Stone Age).
The statue is about 14 centimeters (5.5 inches) tall. It was made from local basalt rock. Today, you can see this ancient treasure at the National Archaeological Museum in Cagliari.

The region around Macomer is famous for its many ancient stone towers. These towers are called nuraghi and date back to the Bronze Age. You can find more of these towers here than almost anywhere else in Sardinia.
Historical and Cultural Sites
The old church of San Pantaleone is a special place. In front of it, you can see three ancient Roman mile-stones. These stones were part of a Roman road that connected the cities of Carales and Turris Libisonis. A modern road still follows this ancient path today.
Recently, a new museum opened called "Le Arti Antiche" (The Ancient Arts). Here, you can see old tools that people used for farming and raising animals. You can also see traditional clothes and old photographs.
Nature and Celebrations
The Monte di Sant'Antonio (St. Anthony's Mountain) is important for both its history and its natural beauty. Every year on June 13, people celebrate the anniversary of Saint Anthony of Padua there.
