Schluein (Romansh pronunciation: [ʃlwɛjn]; Romansh: Schleuis) is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Surselva Region in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. It's a lovely place nestled in the mountains of Switzerland.

Schluein's Past: A Look at Its History
Schluein has a long history! It was first written about way back in 831, when it was called Falerunae. Later, in 1298, it was known as Sluwen. For many years, until 1803, Schluein was controlled by the powerful Löwenberg family. The town's church was first mentioned in records in 1321.
Schluein's Location and Land Use
Schluein covers an area of about 4.8 square kilometers (1.85 square miles). A big part of this land, almost 30%, is used for farming. More than half of the area, about 55.7%, is covered by forests. About 7.1% of the land has buildings or roads, and the rest (7.3%) is made up of rivers, glaciers, or mountains.
Before 2017, Schluein was part of the Ilanz area within the Surselva district. The municipality includes the villages of Schluein, Casanova, and Fallerin. For a long time, until 1983, Schluein was actually called Schleuis.
Who Lives in Schluein? Population and People
Schluein has a population of 611 people. About 10% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the last ten years, the number of people living in Schluein has gone down a little bit.
Most people in Schluein speak Romansh (53.2%). German is the second most common language (28.2%), and Serbo-Croatian is third (3.2%).
In 2000, slightly more than half of the population (53.1%) were boys and men, and 46.9% were girls and women.
