Schwarzenburg is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Canton of Bern. The town is part of the Bern-Mittelland district.
Schwarzenburg was formed on January 1, 2011. It was created when two smaller towns, Wahlern and Albligen, joined together.

Albligen's Past
The town of Albligen was first written about in the year 1346. It was called Alblingen back then.
Wahlern's Past
Wahlern is an even older town. It was first mentioned in records in 1228. At that time, its name was Walerro.

The area that makes up Schwarzenburg today is about 44.88 square kilometers. This includes the land from both Wahlern and Albligen.
People of Schwarzenburg
Schwarzenburg has a population of about 6,700 people. Most people in Schwarzenburg speak German. About 96% of the population uses German as their main language. A small number of people also speak French or Italian.

Transportation in Schwarzenburg
Schwarzenburg is the last stop on the Bern-Schwarzenburg-Bahn train line. This train line opened in 1907. Today, it is part of the BLS AG railway company. The town of Lanzenhäusern also has a train station.

The entire village of Schwarzenburg is also recognized as an important heritage site. So are the small communities of Äckenmatt and Elisried.
