Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders is an animated mystery film released in 2000. It went straight to video, meaning it wasn't shown in movie theaters first. This movie is the third one in a series of Scooby-Doo films made directly for home viewing. It was created by Hanna-Barbera Cartoons, Inc., the same studio that made the original Scooby-Doo cartoons.
This film is special because it was the last one to feature Mary Kay Bergman as the voice of Daphne. She passed away on November 11, 1999, and the movie is dedicated to her memory. Unlike some other Scooby-Doo movies, this one has a lighter feel. The "monsters" who seem scary at first turn out to be good guys, while the real bad guys are humans in disguise.

The Mystery Begins
Lost in the Desert
The Mystery Inc. gang, including Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma, are driving through the desert in Roswell, New Mexico. A big sandstorm makes Shaggy take a wrong turn onto land owned by the government. Soon after, a UFO appears, causing Shaggy to crash the Mystery Machine van. The van's engine breaks down, leaving the gang stuck near a small town.
While Fred, Daphne, and Velma go to a local diner for help, Scooby and Shaggy stay with the van. Suddenly, they see a strange animal called a jackalope, which looks like a rabbit with antlers. It snatches their last Scooby Snack! They chase the jackalope into a cave at a place called Scorpion Ridge. Inside the cave, they meet frog-like aliens. Scared, Scooby and Shaggy run back to the diner in a panic.
Strange Stories in Town
Scooby and Shaggy tell everyone in the diner about their alien encounter. The rest of the gang isn't sure if they believe them. Dottie, the waitress, says that many people in town have claimed to see aliens. However, she has never seen them herself, though she has noticed strange lights and sounds at night. Sergio, the chef, adds that a month ago, local cattle disappeared without a trace. After that, many people moved away from the town.
A man named Lester, who claims he was once taken by aliens, believes Scooby and Shaggy. He says he has pictures from his abduction, but they are just paintings. Lester then tells the gang that ever since a place called SALF (Search for Alien Life Forms) was built nearby, there have been many reports of UFOs and missing animals.
New Friends and Clues
The gang decides to stay overnight at Lester's house. Since there isn't much room, Scooby and Shaggy sleep on the roof. Later that night, they are taken by the aliens! The aliens try to examine them, but Scooby manages to free himself and Shaggy. As they try to escape, the aliens corner them, and they both pass out.
They wake up in the middle of the desert. A friendly photographer named Crystal, who is a hippie, and her golden retriever, Amber, find them. Shaggy and Scooby immediately like Crystal and Amber. They all meet up with the rest of the gang back at the diner.
The gang needs to find a mechanic to fix their van. They meet Steve, Laura, and Max, who all work for SALF. Fred, Velma, and Daphne go on a tour of the SALF building. Meanwhile, Crystal and Amber take Scooby and Shaggy to Scorpion Ridge to try and find the jackalope again and take pictures.
During the SALF tour, Velma becomes suspicious. She sees dried mud on the SALF crew's boots, which is odd because they are in the middle of the desert where there shouldn't be mud. She also notices a lot of oil, which Max says is for the satellite dishes, but Velma realizes it's the wrong kind of oil for that purpose.
The Real Truth Revealed
While looking for the jackalope, Scooby, Shaggy, Crystal, and Amber are told to leave Scorpion Ridge by two government agents. But Crystal then reveals that she is actually an undercover government agent! She was sent to investigate the aliens. The four of them enter a nearby cave.
Lester takes the rest of the gang to Scorpion Ridge. Velma thinks there might be a seasonal river there, so they can investigate. The canyon is dry, but they find tire tracks. They follow the tracks into a cave filled with mining equipment. It's the same cave Scooby and Shaggy are in! Both groups find a huge amount of gold in the cave walls.
Suddenly, the aliens find them and chase them. Fred, Velma, and Daphne are captured, but Shaggy, Scooby, Crystal, and Amber manage to escape. The "aliens" then reveal themselves to be the SALF crew! They explain that they found the gold in the cave while looking for a new place to put a SALF dish. Since the gold was on government land, they decided to keep it all for themselves. They used alien costumes and two fake government agents to scare people away from the area.
After the fake agents corner Scooby, Shaggy, Crystal, and Amber, Crystal and Amber reveal their own big secret: they are real aliens! They disguised themselves as hippies because the only information they had about Earth was from watching old 1960s TV shows. The UFO that caused the gang's van to crash was actually Crystal and Amber's spaceship.
The gang, Crystal, and Amber work together to stop the SALF crew from getting away. They tie them up. The SALF crew and their helpers are arrested. Crystal and Amber say a sad goodbye and return to their home planet. Shaggy and Scooby are heartbroken, but a box of Scooby Snacks helps them feel better. As the gang drives away, the jackalope appears again and looks up at the sky as Crystal and Amber's ship flies by one last time.
