Scotland took part in the 2018 Commonwealth Games! These exciting games happened in Gold Coast, Australia, from April 4 to April 15, 2018. This was Scotland's 21st time competing in the Commonwealth Games, as they have been part of every event since it started way back in 1930.

A famous track and field athlete named Eilidh Doyle had the special job of carrying Scotland's flag during the opening ceremony.

Scotland had a fantastic time at the games, winning a total of 44 medals! This included 9 gold, 13 silver, and 22 bronze medals. They finished 8th overall in the medal count.

Athletics: Running, Jumping, Throwing!

Scotland sent a team of 23 athletes for athletics, which includes track and field events. This team had 9 men and 14 women.

A special athlete, Beth Potter, made history by being the first Scot to compete in two different sports at the same Commonwealth Games! She also took part in triathlon.

  • Jake Wightman won a bronze medal in the men's 1500 metres.
  • Robbie Simpson also earned a bronze medal in the men's marathon.
  • Mark Dry got a bronze medal in the men's hammer throw.
  • Maria Lyle won a silver medal in the women's 100 metres (T35 event).
  • Eilidh Doyle, who carried the flag, won a silver medal in the women's 400 metres hurdles.

  • Reece McFadden won a bronze medal in the men's 52 kg category.
  • John Docherty also earned a bronze medal in the men's 75 kg category.

Cycling: Speed on Wheels!

Scotland's cycling team had 15 riders, 9 men and 6 women, competing in road, track, and mountain bike events.

  • Neil Fachie and his pilot Matt Rotherham were amazing, winning two gold medals in para-cycling: the men's tandem 1 km time trial B and the men's tandem sprint B.
  • Katie Archibald won a gold medal in the women's individual pursuit and a silver in the women's points race.
  • Mark Stewart won a gold medal in the men's points race.
  • John Archibald won a silver medal in the men's individual pursuit.

Scotland's lawn bowls team had 17 players. They did incredibly well!

  • The men's triples team (Darren Burnett, Ronnie Duncan, and Derek Oliver) won a gold medal.
  • The men's fours team (Ronnie Duncan, Paul Foster, Alex Marshall, and Derek Oliver) also won a gold medal.
  • The men's pairs team (Paul Foster and Alex Marshall) won a silver medal.

Netball: Teamwork on the Court!

  • Neil Stirton won a silver medal in the men's 50 metre rifle prone.
  • Linda Pearson won a bronze medal in the women's double trap.
  • James Heatly won a bronze medal in the men's 1 metre springboard.
  • Seonaid McIntosh won two bronze medals: one in the women's 50 metre rifle prone and another in the women's 50 metre rifle three positions.
  • Ian Shaw and Alexander Walker won a bronze medal in the Queen's Prize pairs.

Squash: Quick Reflexes!

Scotland's squash team had 5 players: 3 men and 2 women. They competed in singles and doubles events.

Swimming: In the Pool!

Scotland's swimming team was quite large, with 25 swimmers (15 men and 10 women), including para-swimmers.
