Scott Peacock is a famous American chef. He was born in 1963. He is well-known for his amazing Southern cooking. This means he makes delicious dishes from the southern United States.

Growing Up a Chef

Scott Peacock grew up in a town called Hartford, Alabama. From a young age, he loved food. He was especially inspired by the fresh, home-cooked meals of the American South. He also loved the seafood from the Gulf Coast.

Scott learned that food tasted best when it was picked and cooked right away. He also watched Julia Child's TV shows. She was a famous chef who taught people about French cooking. Watching her made Scott want to become a chef too!

Cooking Adventures and Restaurants

Scott Peacock started his cooking career as a pastry chef. This means he made delicious desserts and baked goods. He worked at a restaurant called The Golden Pheasant.

Later, he worked for the Georgia governor’s mansion. He cooked for two different governors for four years! After that, he opened his own restaurant in Atlanta called Horseradish Grill. He then moved to another Atlanta restaurant, Watershed.

In 2010, Scott left Watershed. He wanted to spend more time writing and making documentaries.

Scott Peacock also worked with another famous chef, Edna Lewis. They met in the late 1980s. Together, they wrote a cookbook called The Gift of Southern Cooking. Edna Lewis even lived at Scott's home in Decatur, Georgia, for the last six years of her life.

After leaving his restaurant, Scott moved to Marion, Alabama. There, he fixed up the kitchen of a very old house called Reverie.

Awards and Writing

Scott Peacock has won some big awards for his cooking. In May 2007, the James Beard Foundation named him "Best Chef in the Southeast." This is a very important award in the cooking world. It means he was the best chef in that part of the country!

Since 2009, Scott has also been a writer for Better Homes and Gardens magazine. He writes articles and columns for them.

In 2018, Food and Wine magazine said his fried chicken recipe was one of the "40 best recipes ever published." That's a huge compliment for a chef!
