Semih Şentürk is a Turkish former footballer born on April 29, 1983. He was a striker, meaning he played in the forward position to score goals. Semih spent most of his playing career at Fenerbahçe, a famous Turkish football club.
During his time at Fenerbahçe from 1999 to 2014, he helped the team win many important titles. These included 5 Süper Lig championships (the top football league in Turkey) and 2 Turkish Cup titles. He grew up playing in the Fenerbahçe youth teams before joining the main squad.
Semih was also a key player for the Turkish national team. He was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2008. In the 2007–08 season, he was the top scorer in the league with 17 goals. Fans and media often called him 'Nöbetçi Golcü', which means 'Striker on Duty', because he was known for scoring important goals, especially when he came on as a substitute.

Playing Career Highlights

Semih Şentürk began his football journey at a local club called Özçamdibispor in İzmir in 1993. He then joined Fenerbahçe in 1999, where he would spend most of his career.
Becoming a Top Scorer
He became a regular and important player for Fenerbahçe during the 2007–08 Süper Lig season. In this season, he scored 17 goals, making him the top scorer in the entire league. Because of his strong performance, he was made the team's vice-captain in 2007.
In 2008, Semih showed his amazing scoring ability by scoring four goals against MTK Budapest in a European match. This was a special achievement, as he was only the second Turkish player ever to score four goals in one European game. He signed new contracts in 2008 and 2011, keeping him at Fenerbahçe until 2014.
Moving to Other Clubs
After leaving Fenerbahçe on June 19, 2013, Semih joined Antalyaspor. He scored his first goal for them on January 26, 2014. Later, he also played for İstanbul Başakşehir and Eskişehirspor, continuing his career as a striker.
International Matches for Turkey
Semih Şentürk was chosen to play for the Turkish national team by coach Fatih Terim. He played a big role in Turkey's success at UEFA Euro 2008.
Euro 2008 Heroics
- On June 11, 2008, in a match against Switzerland, Semih came on as a substitute. Just 11 minutes later, he scored an important goal with a powerful header, tying the game. Turkey went on to win this match.
- In the quarter-finals against Croatia, Semih scored a dramatic goal in the very last second of extra time. This goal tied the game and led to a penalty shootout, which Turkey won.
- In the semi-final match against Germany, Semih scored another crucial equalizer in the 86th minute. This goal made the score 2-2. However, Germany scored again in the final minute, and Turkey was knocked out of the tournament.
Semih became famous for his ability to score vital goals late in games, earning him the nickname super-sub of the tournament.
Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Semih Şentürk returned to Fenerbahçe in November 2020. He started working as a youth coach in the club's academy. In July 2023, he was promoted to be the head coach of the club's Under-19 team. He resigned from this position on September 18, 2024.
