Seney (/sni/ SEE-nee) is a small community in Schoolcraft County, located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, United States. It is not a city or town with its own government, but rather an "unincorporated community." The state highway M-28 goes right through Seney.

Seney's Early Days: A Railroad and Logging Town

Seney started as a stop for trains in 1881. Soon after, companies that cut down trees, called logging companies, moved into the area. They came to harvest the many white pine trees in the nearby forests.

How Seney Grew and Changed

Seney quickly grew to have over 3,000 people. It was a very busy place because of the logging business. However, by the end of the 1800s, most of the pine forests were gone. This was due to all the logging and many forest fires. When the trees were gone, the logging companies left. This caused the town to shrink a lot. Today, fewer than 200 people live in Seney.
