Serdar Tasci (born 24 April 1987) is a German former professional footballer. He played as a centre-back, which is a defender position in football.
Tasci started his career with VfB Stuttgart in 2006 and played there until 2013. He even became the team captain in 2011. During his time at Stuttgart, he played in 181 senior games and helped the team win the 2006–07 Bundesliga title.
In 2013, he moved to a new club, Spartak Moscow. However, an injury kept him from playing for a big part of his first season there. Serdar Tasci also played for the German national team 14 times between 2008 and 2010. He was part of the team that finished third in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Clubs
Early Football Years
Serdar Tasci was born in Esslingen, Germany. His parents were from Turkey. He started playing football when he was six years old. He played for youth teams like SC Altbach, Stuttgarter Kickers, and VfB Stuttgart.
Before the 2005–06 season, he joined Stuttgart's second team. He played in the third division, called the Regionalliga. He had already helped VfB Stuttgart win championships for younger players in 2004 and 2005.
VfB Stuttgart Career
In the 2006–07 season, Tasci joined Stuttgart's main team in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. He made his first professional appearance on 20 August 2006. This was in a 3–2 win against Arminia Bielefeld. He scored his first goal a week later against Borussia Dortmund.
Tasci signed a contract with Stuttgart until 2010. He played as a right-back or centre-back. He helped VfB Stuttgart win their first Bundesliga title in 15 years in the last game of the season. He played 31 games and scored two goals that season.
In the 2007–08 season, Tasci continued to play well. He made his Champions League debut, which is a big European club competition. He scored one goal that season and played in 29 games. He missed some games due to injuries.
For the 2008–09 season, Tasci often played alongside Khalid Boulahrouz in defense. He scored his first European goal in the UEFA Cup against Győri ETO. This helped his team move to the next round. He later injured his knee and missed the end of the season. He played 40 games and scored two goals that season.

He played 32 games and scored one goal that season.
In the 2011–12 season, Tasci continued to be a key player. He scored his first goal of the season against Hannover 96. In January 2012, he was named the new captain of VfB Stuttgart. He scored three goals and played 30 games that season, even with some injuries.
Before the 2012–13 season, Tasci mentioned that Barcelona was interested in him. However, no official offers were made. He remained captain of Stuttgart. He scored his first goal of the season in the Europa League against Steaua București. He played 39 games and scored one goal that season. In the DFB-Pokal final, he captained Stuttgart, but they lost to Bayern Munich.
At the start of the 2013–14 season, Tasci got injured in the first game. This turned out to be his last game for VfB Stuttgart.
Moving to Spartak Moscow

On 30 August 2013, Tasci moved to Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League. He said it was a tough decision to leave Stuttgart, where he had played since he was young.
His debut for Spartak Moscow was delayed because of the injury he had from Stuttgart. He finally played his first game for the club on 17 March 2014. He played only three games in his first season due to injuries.

In the 2014–15 season, Tasci became a regular player for Spartak Moscow. He scored his first goal for the club on 2 November 2014. He played 23 games and scored two goals that season.
For the 2015–16 season, Tasci started well, scoring in the first game. He also helped his team keep three clean sheets (no goals conceded) in the next three matches. He scored another goal in the Russian Cup. He played 17 games and scored two goals before moving on loan.

Tasci returned to Spartak Moscow for the 2016–17 season. He helped the team have a good start. He got a knee injury in December 2016 but returned to full training by February. He helped Spartak Moscow win their first league title in 15 years. He played 19 games that season.
Before the 2017–18 season, Tasci suffered a toe injury. He returned in August 2017 but then had a thigh injury. He continued to play for the team. He finished the season with 22 appearances. In March 2018, Tasci decided to leave Spartak Moscow when his contract ended in June 2018.
Loan to Bayern Munich
On 1 February 2016, Tasci joined Bayern Munich on loan for the rest of the season. This happened because Bayern had many defenders injured.
Soon after joining, Tasci got a concussion in training. He made his debut on 20 February in a 3–1 win. However, he didn't play much after that. Bayern Munich won the league that season. Tasci later said he regretted joining because he didn't get enough playing time. Bayern decided not to sign him permanently.
Playing for İstanbul Başakşehir
On 5 January 2019, after being without a club for six months, Tasci moved to Turkey to join İstanbul Başakşehir. He said it was a dream to play in Turkey.
He made his debut in the Turkish Cup. On 18 February 2019, he played his first league game for Başakşehir, which they won 1–0. He played four league games and one cup game for the club.
Playing for His Country
Youth National Teams
Because Serdar Tasci was born in Germany and had Turkish parents, he could choose to play for either Germany or Turkey. In October 2006, he chose to play for Germany.
He made his debut for the Germany U19 team on 12 September 2005. He played three games for the U19 team.
On 30 August 2006, Tasci played his only game for the Germany U20 team. A few months later, he played his only game for the Germany U21 team on 6 February 2007.
Senior National Team
Tasci was called up to the German senior team for the first time in August 2007. He made his official debut for Germany on 20 August 2008 in a friendly match against Belgium. Germany won the game 2–0.
He was part of the German squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He made his World Cup debut in the third-place match against Uruguay, coming on as a substitute in the last minutes. Germany finished third in the tournament.
Tasci hoped to play for Germany again, but he never did after the 2010 World Cup.
Personal Life
Serdar Tasci left school in February 2007, a few months before he was supposed to finish. His mother, who was a teacher, wanted him to finish school. However, his father, who was an excavator, wanted him to be a footballer. Tasci later said that he studied well and made the decision to become a footballer. His father is now his agent.
Tasci is a Muslim. He speaks German and Turkish, and he is learning Russian. He has one sister.
In June 2007, Tasci visited his parents' hometown in Turkey, Artvin. He received an award there to honor him.
