Kang Seul-gi (born February 10, 1994), known as Seulgi, is a popular South Korean singer and dancer. She is a member of the famous K-pop girl group Red Velvet. She also belongs to a smaller group called Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi and a supergroup named Got the Beat. Seulgi released her first solo album, 28 Reasons, in 2022.

Early Life and School
Seulgi was born on February 10, 1994, in Ansan, a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She grew up with her parents and an older brother.
She went to Ansan Byeolmang Middle School. Later, she studied at the School of Performing Arts Seoul, which is a special high school for students who want to work in the arts. Seulgi can speak both Korean and Japanese.
Seulgi's Music Journey
Starting Out (2007–2014)
Seulgi started training to become a K-pop idol in 2007 at SM Entertainment. This is one of the biggest entertainment companies in South Korea. On December 2, 2013, she was introduced to the public as part of a special project called SM Rookies. This project helped new trainees get known before their official debut.
Before she officially debuted, SM Entertainment shared videos of Seulgi. One video showed her dancing to a song called "Be Natural" with another trainee, Irene. In July 2014, Seulgi sang on a song called "Butterfly" for singer Henry Lau. She also appeared in his music video for "Fantastic."
Debuting with Red Velvet and Solo Work (2014–2018)
On August 1, 2014, Seulgi officially debuted as a member of the girl group Red Velvet.
In January 2015, Seulgi acted in a musical called School Oz. She played the main character, Dorothy. From April to May, she was on a TV show called Off to School.
In July 2016, Seulgi and her bandmate Wendy released a song called "Don't Push Me." It was part of the soundtrack for a TV show. In October, Seulgi appeared on a singing competition show called King of Mask Singer. She also sang a theme song for a video game in November. In December, Seulgi and Wendy released another song with other SM artists.
In January 2017, Seulgi and Wendy sang "You're the Only One I See" for a drama soundtrack. Seulgi also released a duet song called "Darling U" with Yesung. In February, she worked with Hwang Chi-yeul on a song. In March, Seulgi was featured on a song by Mark. Seulgi also joined a TV show where she and six other female idols created their own TV series. They formed a group called Girls Next Door and released a song called "Deep Blue Eyes." In October, Seulgi, Kangta, and Wendy released a remake of an old song. She also featured on Taemin's song "Heart Stop."
In February 2018, Seulgi joined the cast of a reality show called Law of the Jungle in Mexico. In April, she was on another show called Secret Unnie. She also featured on Moonbyul's song "Selfish." Seulgi and Wendy appeared on the 100th episode of Battle Trip in July. In September, Seulgi released a song called "Wow Thing" with three other popular female idols: Soyeon, SinB, and Chungha. In October, Seulgi became a host on the TV show Cool Kids. She also featured on Zion.T's song "Hello Tutorial," which became very popular.
New Groups and Solo Album (2019–Present)
On February 12, 2019, Seulgi released a ballad song called "Always" for a TV show soundtrack.
On April 20, 2020, SM Entertainment announced that Seulgi and Irene would form Red Velvet's first sub-unit. This new group, Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi, debuted on July 6 with an album called Monster. This album included Seulgi's solo song "Uncover." Seulgi and Irene also starred in a spin-off of Red Velvet's reality show. In November, it was announced that Seulgi would translate a series of art essays.
On January 25, 2021, Seulgi appeared in a music video for Yunho's song "Eeny Meeny." On February 1, Seulgi and rapper Bewhy released a music video for "Born Confident" for a car company. On March 30, Seulgi was featured on Wendy's song "Best Friend." In April, Seulgi started hosting a web music program. In June, she began hosting her own live show called Seulgi.zip. On June 7, Seulgi worked with NCT's Taeyong on a demo song called "Rose." On December 28, Seulgi featured on BamBam's song "Who Are You." On December 27, Seulgi was announced as a member of a new supergroup called Got the Beat, along with Wendy. The group debuted on January 3, 2022.
On September 13, 2022, it was announced that Seulgi would release her first solo album, 28 Reasons, on October 4. The main song from the album was also called "28 Reasons."
On August 22, 2023, SM Entertainment shared that Seulgi had renewed her contract with them. In December 2023, Seulgi sang a song called "Polaroid" for a reality TV show.
In January 2024, she sang another song called "In My Memory" for a drama. On February 6, 2024, Seulgi launched her own YouTube channel, "Hi Seulgi." She plans to share content about fashion, beauty, and her hobbies there. On April 3, 2024, Seulgi released another song dedicated to the famous panda Fu Bao. On May 4, 2024, she performed as a special guest at BamBam's concert in Thailand.
On January 15, 2025, Seulgi collaborated with the famous singer Kim Wan-sun on a digital single called "Lucky."
Other Activities
Brand Partnerships
Besides working with her bandmates on endorsements, Seulgi has also become a brand ambassador on her own. In March 2018, she modeled for Nike's collection for the South Korean national football team. From 2018 to 2021, Seulgi was the face of Converse Korea, being their first female ambassador.
On December 23, 2019, Seulgi was announced as the face of Coca-Cola's 2020 campaign. A few days later, the French beauty brand L'Occitane launched a new campaign with Seulgi.
In January 2021, Seulgi became the new ambassador for Volkswagen Korea. She helped promote their new car model. In February, Seulgi was named the South Korean brand ambassador for the Italian luxury brand Ferragamo. In April, she became a model for the cosmetics brand AMUSE. In December, she became the muse for a Korean streetwear brand called Istkünst.
In September 2022, Seulgi became a muse for Under Armour Korea. In June 2023, Adobe Korea launched a campaign with Seulgi.
Art and Photography
Seulgi is also known for her skills in art and photography. In 2016, she was chosen as an honorary ambassador for a film festival to help promote animated films and support young artists. In 2019, she voiced an audio guide for an art exhibit in Seoul.
The French company L'Occitane worked with Seulgi in 2019. She designed a city map for eco-friendly bags to show the beauty of nature in cities.
Because Seulgi loves art, Maronie Books asked her to translate their "Art Museum By My Side" project in 2020. This book series helps people enjoy art more easily. Seulgi's translation included her own notes and favorite artworks.
In November 2021, Seulgi joined a campaign with Lacoste and Peanuts to promote harmony. She created drawings based on famous Peanuts quotes.
On February 10, 2022, Seulgi published a poster book with her own artworks. In August, the luxury jewelry brand Fred Paris worked with Seulgi on their first emoji brand campaign. Seulgi helped design the character and stickers.
Seulgi's 2023 campaign with Adobe Photoshop Korea featured quick tutorials using her travel photos and drawings.
In October 2024, Seulgi held her first film exhibit called Nothing Special, But Special. It showed her own photographs and glimpses of her private life. She also released a photobook about what film photography means to her.
