Kang Seul-gi (born February 10, 1994), known simply as Seulgi, is a talented singer and dancer from South Korea. She is a popular member of the K-pop girl group Red Velvet. Seulgi is also part of a special group called Got the Beat. In 2022, she released her very first solo album, an EP called 28 Reasons.

About Seulgi's Early Life and School
Kang Seul-gi was born on February 10, 1994. Her hometown is Ansan, which is in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She grew up with her parents and an older brother.
Seulgi went to Ansan Byeolmang Middle School. Later, she studied at the School of Performing Arts Seoul. She is good at speaking both Korean and Japanese.
Seulgi's Music Career
Before Her Big Debut (2007–2014)
Seulgi started training with SM Entertainment in 2007. This is a big company that creates K-pop stars. On December 2, 2013, she was one of the first three trainees to be shown to the public. This was part of SM Entertainment's special project called SM Rookies. Other trainees introduced with her were Jeno and Taeyong, who are now members of the group NCT.
SM Entertainment shared videos of Seulgi before her debut. One video showed her dancing to a song called "Be Natural" by S.E.S. with another trainee, Irene. In July 2014, Seulgi sang on Henry Lau's song "Butterfly." This song was on his second album, Fantastic. She also appeared in the music video for his song "Fantastic."
Starting with Red Velvet and Solo Work (2014–2018)
Seulgi officially became a member of Red Velvet on August 1, 2014. This was her big debut!
In January 2015, Seulgi acted in a musical called School Oz. She played the main character, Dorothy. From April to May, she was on a TV show called Off to School.
In July 2016, Seulgi and her bandmate Wendy released a song called "Don't Push Me." It was part of the soundtrack for a TV show called Uncontrollably Fond. In October, Seulgi appeared on a singing competition show called King of Mask Singer. She used the name Cinema Heaven. On November 18, she sang the theme song for a game called Blade & Soul. The song was called "You, Just Like That." On December 30, Seulgi and Wendy sang "Sound of Your Heart" with other SM artists. This was for a music project called SM Station.
In January 2017, Seulgi and Wendy released another song for a TV show. It was called "You're the Only One I See" for the drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. On January 22, Seulgi sang a duet called "Darling U" with Yesung from her label. In February, Seulgi worked with Hwang Chi-yeul on a song called "Our Story." In March, Seulgi was featured on Mark's song "Drop." This song was performed on a show called High School Rapper.
Seulgi also joined six other female idols on a TV show called Idol Drama Operation Team. On this show, they wrote and acted in their own TV series. The group they formed was called Girls Next Door. They released a song called "Deep Blue Eyes" and performed it on Music Bank on July 14. On October 27, Seulgi, Kangta, and Wendy released a remake of an old song called "Doll." This was also part of the SM Station project. That same month, Seulgi was featured on Taemin's song "Heart Stop" from his album Move.
In February 2018, Seulgi joined the cast of a show called Law of the Jungle in Mexico. In April, she was on another show called Secret Unnie. She also sang on Moonbyul's song "Selfish," which came out on May 23. Seulgi and Wendy were on the 100th episode of Battle Trip on July 21. In September, Seulgi released a song called "Wow Thing" with Soyeon, SinB, and Chungha. In October, Seulgi was chosen to be on the TV show Cool Kids. On October 15, she was featured on Zion.T's song "Hello Tutorial," which became very popular.
Red Velvet Sub-Unit, Got the Beat, and Solo Debut (2019–Present)
On February 12, 2019, Seulgi released a beautiful song called "Always." It was a ballad about never-ending love and was part of the soundtrack for the show The Crowned Clown.
On April 20, 2020, SM Entertainment announced that Seulgi would be part of Red Velvet's first sub-unit. This means a smaller group within Red Velvet. She joined her bandmate Irene. Their sub-unit, Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi, debuted on July 6 with an album called Monster. This album included Seulgi's solo song "Uncover," which she had first shown during Red Velvet's concert tour. Seulgi and Irene also starred in a spin-off of Red Velvet's reality show, Level Up Project!. On November 23, it was announced that Seulgi would help translate a series of art books.
On January 25, 2021, Seulgi appeared in the music video for Yunho's song "Eeny Meeny." On February 1, Seulgi and rapper Bewhy released a music video for "Born Confident." This was for a Volkswagen car campaign. On March 30, it was announced that Seulgi would be featured on Wendy's song "Best Friend" from Wendy's first solo album. On April 2, Seulgi was announced as a host for a web music show called The Wise Music Encyclopedia. On June 1, she started her own live show called Seulgi.zip on Naver Now. On June 7, Seulgi worked with NCT's Taeyong on a demo song called "Rose." They both helped write the song. On December 28, Seulgi was featured on BamBam's song "Who Are You." On December 27, Seulgi was announced as a member of the new supergroup Got the Beat. This group debuted on January 3, 2022.
On September 13, 2022, it was announced that Seulgi would finally debut as a solo artist! Her first solo album, an EP called 28 Reasons, was released on October 4. The main song from the album was also called "28 Reasons."
On August 22, 2023, SM Entertainment shared that Seulgi had renewed her contract with Red Velvet. In December 2023, Seulgi sang a song called "Polaroid" for the TV show Unexpected Business.
In January 2024, she sang another song called "In My Memory" for the drama Doctor Slump. On February 6, 2024, Seulgi started her own YouTube channel, Hi Seulgi. She plans to share her fashion, beauty tips, and hobbies there. On April 3, 2024, Seulgi released a song called "You’re My Joy and Luck." This song was dedicated to the famous panda, Fu Bao. On May 4, 2024, she was a special guest at BamBam's concert in Thailand. This was their first time performing "Who Are You" together live.
On January 15, 2025, the famous singer Kim Wan-sun will release a song called "Lucky" with Seulgi. This song was produced by JYP. Seulgi had worked with Kim Wan-sun before on other performances.

Brand Endorsements
Besides working with her bandmates on ads, Seulgi has also become a brand ambassador on her own. In March 2018, she was chosen to model for Nike's collection for the South Korean national football team. From 2018 to 2021, Seulgi was the face of Converse Korea. She was their first female brand ambassador. She helped them with their "One Star" campaign, which encouraged people to value themselves.
On December 23, 2019, Seulgi was announced as the face of Coca-Cola's 2020 campaign. She worked with actor Park Bo-gum on this. A few days later, a French company called L'Occitane started a new campaign with Seulgi. She was the ambassador for their special hand cream.
In January 2021, Seulgi became the new ambassador for Volkswagen Korea. She was the face of a campaign for their new T-Roc car model. She even helped promote it with original music and videos. In February, Seulgi was officially named the South Korean brand ambassador for the Italian luxury brand Ferragamo. This was announced through a photoshoot with Harper's Bazaar magazine. On June 29, she was announced as their global brand ambassador. In April, Seulgi became the newest model for the cosmetics brand AMUSE. In December, she became the muse for Istkünst, a Korean unisex streetwear brand.
In September 2022, Seulgi became a muse for Under Armour Korea. She modeled for different collections of the brand.
In June 2023, Adobe Korea launched a campaign called "With Photoshop, Anyone Can" with Seulgi.
Arts and Photography
Seulgi is not only a great dancer and singer, but she is also known for her art and photography skills. In 2016, she was chosen as an honorary ambassador for a film festival. This was to help people learn more about animated films and to help new artists. In 2019, she recorded an audio guide for an art exhibit in Seoul.
The French company L'Occitane worked with Seulgi in 2019 for their "City Palette" campaign. Seulgi designed a city map for eco-friendly bags. This design showed the beauty of nature in cities that have a lot of pollution.
Because Seulgi loves art, Maronie Books asked her to translate their Art Museum By My Side project in 2020. This project is a collection of 35 artworks for different themes like Love, Happiness, and Sleep. It helps people who find art difficult to understand. Seulgi's translation of the book included her own thoughts and favorite parts.
In November 2021, Seulgi joined the Lacoste and Peanuts "We Play Collective" campaign. This campaign wanted to show how different people can get along. Seulgi chose famous Peanuts quotes and drew pictures to express them.
On February 10, 2022, Seulgi released a poster book with her own artworks. These artworks showed her happy personal moments. In August, the luxury jewelry brand Fred Paris worked with Seulgi on their first emoji brand campaign. It was called "Seulggomi," which was inspired by her nickname "bear" from fans. Seulgi helped create the character and stickers.
Seulgi's 2023 campaign with Adobe Photoshop Korea included quick tutorials. She used her travel photos and drawings. They also started a contest for users to create their own album covers using Photoshop.
In October 2024, Seulgi had her first film exhibit called Nothing Special, But Special. It showed photos she had taken over time. It also showed parts of her private life captured by a photographer. She also released a book that explained what film photography means to her.
