Kang Seul-gi (Hangul: 강슬기), known as Seulgi, is a South Korean singer and dancer. She was born on February 10, 1994. Seulgi is a member of the popular K-pop girl group Red Velvet. She is also part of a smaller group called Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi and a supergroup named Got the Beat. In 2022, she released her first solo music collection, an EP, called 28 Reasons.

Seulgi's Early Life and School
Kang Seul-gi was born in Ansan, a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. She grew up with her parents and an older brother.
Seulgi went to Ansan Byeolmang Middle School. Later, she attended the School of Performing Arts Seoul. She is fluent in both Korean and Japanese.
Seulgi's Music Journey
Starting Out: 2007–2014
Seulgi began training to become a K-pop idol in 2007. She joined SM Entertainment, a big music company. In 2013, she was introduced to the public. This was part of a special project called SM Rookies. She was one of the first three trainees shown to fans.
Before her official debut, SM Entertainment released videos of Seulgi. One video showed her dancing to a song called "Be Natural." In 2014, she was featured on a song. It was called "Butterfly" by singer Henry Lau. She also appeared in his music video for "Fantastic."
Debut with Red Velvet and Solo Work: 2014–2018
On August 1, 2014, Seulgi officially became a member of Red Velvet. The group quickly became very popular.
In 2015, Seulgi acted in a musical called School Oz. She played the main character, Dorothy. She also appeared on a TV show called Off to School.
Seulgi also sang for TV show soundtracks. In 2016, she released "Don't Push Me" with her bandmate Wendy. This song was for the show Uncontrollably Fond. She also sang a theme song for a game called Blade & Soul. Later, she released a song called "Sound of Your Heart." She sang it with Wendy and other SM artists.
In 2017, Seulgi and Wendy sang "You're the Only One I See." This was for the drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. Seulgi also sang a duet with Yesung called "Darling U." She worked with Hwang Chi-yeul on "Our Story." Seulgi also featured on a song called "Drop" by Mark.
Seulgi joined a TV show called Idol Drama Operation Team. On the show, she and six other female idols created their own TV series. They formed a group called Girls Next Door. They released a song called "Deep Blue Eyes." In October 2017, Seulgi sang a remake of "Doll." She sang it with Kangta and Wendy. She also featured on Taemin's song "Heart Stop."
In 2018, Seulgi appeared on the TV show Law of the Jungle in Mexico. She also joined the show Secret Unnie. She was featured on Moonbyul's song "Selfish." Seulgi and Wendy were on the 100th episode of Battle Trip. In September, Seulgi released "Wow Thing" with Soyeon, SinB, and Chungha. She also became a host on the TV show Cool Kids. In October, she featured on Zion.T's song "Hello Tutorial." This song became very popular.
New Groups and Solo Debut: 2019–Present
In 2019, Seulgi released a song called "Always." It was a ballad for the TV show The Crowned Clown.
In 2020, SM Entertainment announced a new group. It was Red Velvet's first sub-unit. It included Seulgi and her bandmate Irene. This group, Red Velvet – Irene & Seulgi, debuted in July 2020. Their first EP was called Monster. The EP included Seulgi's solo song "Uncover." Seulgi and Irene also starred in a spin-off of Red Velvet's reality show Level Up Project!.
In 2021, Seulgi appeared in a music video for Yunho's "Eeny Meeny." She also released a song called "Born Confident" with rapper Bewhy. This was for a Volkswagen campaign. Seulgi featured on Wendy's song "Best Friend." She also started hosting her own live show called Seulgi.zip. In June, Seulgi worked with NCT's Taeyong on a song called "Rose." They both helped write the song. In December, Seulgi featured on BamBam's song "Who Are You." Also in December, Seulgi became a member of the supergroup Got the Beat. This group debuted in January 2022.
On September 13, 2022, it was announced that Seulgi would release her first solo EP. It was called 28 Reasons and came out on October 4, 2022. The main song was also called "28 Reasons."
In August 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Seulgi renewed her contract with them. In December 2023, Seulgi sang "Polaroid" for the TV show Unexpected Business. In January 2024, she sang "In My Memory" for the drama Doctor Slump. On February 6, 2024, she started her own YouTube channel called "Hi Seulgi." It shows her lifestyle, fashion, beauty, and hobbies. In April 2024, she sang "You're My Joy and Luck" for the famous panda Fu Bao. In May 2024, she performed with BamBam at his concert in Thailand.
In January 2025, Seulgi collaborated with singer Kim Wan-sun on a song called "Lucky." In February 2025, SM Entertainment announced that Seulgi would release her second EP. It is called Accidentally on Purpose and was released on March 10, 2025. The main song is "Baby, Not Baby."
Other Activities
Brand Partnerships
Seulgi has worked with many famous brands. In 2018, she modeled for Nike's collection for the South Korea national football team. From 2018 to 2021, Seulgi was the first female brand ambassador for Converse Korea. She helped promote their "One Star" campaign.
In 2019, Seulgi became the face of Coca-Cola's 2020 campaign. She also worked with the French beauty brand L'Occitane.
In 2021, Seulgi became the new ambassador for Volkswagen Korea. She helped promote their new T-Roc car model. In February 2021, she was named the South Korean brand ambassador for the Italian luxury brand Ferragamo. In June 2021, she became their global brand ambassador. She also became a model for the cosmetics brand Amuse. In December 2021, she became the muse for Istkünst, a Korean streetwear brand.
In September 2022, Seulgi became a muse for Under Armour Korea. In June 2023, Adobe Korea launched an advertising campaign with Seulgi.
Art and Photography
Besides singing and dancing, Seulgi is also known for her art and photography. In 2016, she was an honorary ambassador for a film festival. She helped spread awareness about animated films. In 2019, she voiced an audio guide for an art exhibit in Seoul.
L'Occitane worked with Seulgi in 2019 for their "City Palette" campaign. Seulgi designed a city map for eco-friendly bags. This showed the beauty of nature in cities.
In 2020, Seulgi translated a series of art essays. The project was called Art Museum By My Side. It aimed to help people enjoy art more easily. Seulgi's translation included her own thoughts and favorite artworks.
In November 2021, Seulgi joined a campaign with Lacoste and Peanuts. She created drawings based on famous Peanuts quotes.
On February 10, 2022, Seulgi released a poster book. It featured her own artworks. These artworks showed her personal happy moments. In August 2022, the jewelry brand Fred Paris worked with Seulgi. They created an emoji brand campaign called "Seulggomi." This was inspired by her bear nickname from fans. Seulgi helped design the character and stickers.
Seulgi's 2023 campaign with Adobe Photoshop Korea featured quick tutorials. She used her travel photos and drawings. She also launched a contest for users to create album covers.
In October 2024, Seulgi held her first film exhibit. It was called Nothing Special, But Special. It showed her photographs and glimpses of her private life. She also released a photobook about what film photography means to her.
